ZX9R Insurance Prices

Postby dave#3 » Sun Feb 27, 2005 6:34 pm

Well I was pretty much decided on a ZX9R for my next bike, but today thought I might just check the insurance costs. I know some insurers may be a little cheaper than others, but f$%k me it's dear to insure a 9.

It doesn't seem to matter much which year model I choose, or how little I insure it for, they are just damned expensive.

As an example for a male over 25 years with no incidents in the past 5 years and 9 years driving experience the premium to insure a 2000 ZX9R for $10000 is $4,710.03 - even with a no claim bonus of 65% this is $1,648.51 / year with a $400 excess

I have considered 'self-insuring' and just getting 3rd party property damage from an insurance company but think I will end up going with a 6 instead. Insurance is still approx $1k with 65% NCB but it's a bit more affordable

I recognise that bikes are easily and frequently damaged but FFS this is expensive.

Out of interest (if it's not too personal a question) how much are other ZX9R riders paying for insurance ?

Um.. I will check who I am doing this through, I am paying not a whole lot more than I was for my ZZR250.

I am doing it through Western QBE insurance.

I am under 25, have 5 year no claim... one incident that was not my fault. Still, that sounds like you are getting excessively ripped off!

FARK...even NRMA would insure me cheaper than that.

try arista (old aurora, they advertise in amcn, two wheels etc) mine was only 600 and something...then again, i'm an older fart

then again, they will charge you more simply cuse you use it to commute

Holy Fark Dave way to shoot down a blokes dreams hey ?. Wheres Yappa Feel a few expletives would be warranted about this Chris ?.0
Mate i am with Arista Rating 1 60% no claim bonus. An with the old Farts (Over 40's) Discount set me back $652.96 agreed value $16500. Swan wanted $1200 n i paid $960 with Suncorp till i turned 40 last april n then swapped companies.
Has to be a better deal then $1600 for a bike worth 10 - 12 large.

I am 29, Rating 1 for life with Suncorp and when I had my 2000 model 9R I could pay around $850 outright for 12 months insurance however due to me paying by the month I copped a 15% surcharge on top.

Which worked out to around $970 same as Brett.

I would certainly shop around, $1600 is ridiculous especially if you have a clean history.

full comp for my ZX7R costs me $990 for rating one, over 25, agreed value $10000.
$1600 seems a bit on the exspensive side.

Suncorp have my bike listed as a BA whatever that means but being a litre plus bike the premium takes a big step up to $104 per month Rating 1 37y/old with a 400dolla excess full comp.
I remember getting quotes through brokers at 4 grand too

$800-something for the year w/ NRMA, market value (i think) over 25, no claim bonus rating 1 (all that stupid BS)...... and it is due soon (april)....
i will hunt around for a better deal if this doesn't go down a bit for years of loyalty to NRMA?!

Quotes mentioned were with NRMA. Price from Shannons was $3728.57 ($1305.00 with 65% NCB) ... will have to see about Arista and Western QBE.

Strangely with Shannons it made no difference if they quoted on a ZX6 or a ZX9 whereas NRMA dropped the price by nearly 30% :?

I will let you know how QBE and Arista go.

Last year I went with NRMA for my '98 6R costing me $500. The other choice was Suncorp at $590. This year I have hit the big 30. I've just renued and NRMA wanted $580 for market value and Suncorp are covering me for 8K for $450 with a rating 1.

Sounds a bit steep

...slightly O/T, I don't have a 9R.

When I was buying the ZZR, I also looked at a 98 ZX-6R. Approx 50% more than the ZZR to insure for the same amount.

As I'm now officially an old bastard the ZZR was $348 full comprehensive through Swann. Having said that, it's worth way less than a 9R. A new SV650/FZ6 was around $480-$490 a year for a new $11k bike. Seems to depend on how much plastic you can break as well.
