ZXR250 Fuel Consumption

Postby kevindinho » Sat Jun 13, 2009 10:22 pm

Hi all, wonder how many K's other ZXR250 owners get out of a tank? I get like 150km's usually filling up around 10litres of 95 octane.

Thanks
Kev

thats not too bad, 150k's from 10Litres.

that's 6.6L to 100k's, it could be a tad better for a 250, but it's certainly better than most bikes.

Yea pretty much commuting at the moment, haven't had time to do anything else last couple of months.

Hmm maybe i need to ride more smoothly... and fill up more apparently full tank is 15L but it looks pretty full @ around 10-12L already. Don't wanna spill shit everywhere.

Looks like not many people have C models around there.

i used to get 300km+ out of mine (92 zxr250-c)used to fill up around 250km all the time though, i dont like to be caught short :) even flogging the guts out of it i could still get 250-300km from a tank.

communting will be using a bit more fuel to the 100kays, yer they should take about 14-15 i think. and theres a 2.5 litre reserve (may be 3)
are you hitting reserve?

Kawasaki250- I make sure i don't hit reserve, i don't like the bike jerking around. I read on wikipedia that it averages 7L per 100Km, though wiki ain't the most reliable source.

Nosferatu- 250-300km flogging  did you upgrade the tank or something?

Next fill up i'm going to try get 250km out of it hopefully i wont get caught short. One question when filling up do i need to switch to reserve so fuel goes into the reserve tank or does it do it automatically?

To my knowledge it's not a reserve "tank" as such, it's a higher fuel hose drain point in the same tank so that you know it's getting low

i haven't upgraded the tank, its had good economy since i got it. dunno why but i wasn't complaining. i ALWAYS fill right to the brim so the cap gets wet too, even on the 10R, so that might make a bit of a difference, and i always put bp ultimate through it. i also used Castrol R4 5W-40 engine oil. don't know how much of a difference it made, but it seemed to rev a bit freer/smoother (could have been my imagination)

tim, you're quite right with the reserve. the main is just higher up the filter inside the tank and switching to reserve drains from the bottom of it.

my old C (not well cared for  except oil and filter changes) gets about the same ...... around 150k commuting before it starts to chug....and it spends most of its time in 3rd or 4th in the burbs...........k's out an about not sure i tend to fill up whenever i run into a garage.... as i dont plan around fuel stops.....(preferably BP with 98)........just follow my nose..and its always on reserve..... i just peer into the tank occasionally been lucky thus far and not had to leg it

When I went to Motul 15W50 the bike felt freer/smoother also!!! Was a nice surprise. The cooler months are more fun on the throttle too 'cause of the more dense air!

I'm getting about 140km before reserve, but mine's running rich and in need of a general tune up. I would love to be getting 250km a tank.
