It's a 200w motor powered by 10AH lithium battery. This is the greatest fun in a loooong time :D

Sure...

I tried to drain the battery and took it around some bike path here. I was unable to  ... cold got the better of me.

I wanted to do my road bike too, but can't find a throttle for drop bars. Pricesless is the looks from kids and people as they hear the whirr of the motor.

Be careful mate 200W is the point where the police will confiscate the bike and fine you in Victoria, are you sure the motor is not 199W?

A lady up here was in the paper last week saying that she had her bike was seized and she was fined something like $367 for riding an unregistered vehicle on the road. They interviewed the police and they said it needed to be registered as it was 200W AND capable of 30km/h (woo!). I'm guessing they think 30km/h is pretty quick for a pushie, and they mustn't watch the Tour De France (or the Commonwealth/Olympic Games). I'm a saggy arsed 45yo and I can do 30km/h on my mountain bike ffs...

im more interested in the throttle control. does the inside bit of the grip work as the throttle on this thing, or is that used as the gearchange mechanism (like it seems to be on a lot of mtb's?)

No worries, the kit is from eLation bike, which is a small aussie company which started out as a hobby. They cost about $1400 including the battery. It is the best but *not* the most expensive :D.

The throttle works like a normal motorcycle, hopefully you have ridden one . I moved it to left handlebar as I want to do rapid-shifting with the right hand. The gearchange mechanism is the oringinal bike gears, except the front gear is free-wheeling.

Why is this kit the best that I know?
- It freewhels both on the crank and motor
- uses normal bike gears (as supposed to hub motor in cheapo ebay kits...)
- Battery is the best (LiFEPO4).

It doesn't accelerate well. What electric motor does best, however, is holding a certain RPM. So what I'd do is pedal to certain speed and let the motor hold it. 35kph no pedalling is no issue this morning to work (cold)...
