LED flasher relay - 08/09 Z750

Postby HYPE » Sat May 02, 2009 11:11 pm

After installing LED indicators/blinkers you will find the flash rate has increased (2x)
You can purchase Indicator flash rate relays from many accessory stores/ebay.

for example:
http://stores.ebay.com.au/RatedR-Custom ... idZ2QQtZkm

The plug & play units are suited to most 2-wire systems and are the most basic of installs.

1. Purchase the relay
2. Locate the relay position
3. Remove the OEM unit
4. Plug in the new!

picture example:

Relay is located under pillion seat.

this is the OEM relay you want to replace.

Plug the new relay into the factory connector (no splicing req) and mount it securely.

DONE! you're new LED indicators will now flash at normal rate.

Note: for 3-4 wire systems some splicing/resistors may be required.

Thanks, ... well after attempting to research the interwebz for valid and non-jibberish info i came to the conclusion that if none is found i might as well contribute somehow and cut the time of others doing these DIY mods. If everyone added some we'd never have to buy (pirate) manuals that are only understood by 17th century wordsmiths.

Doesn't a small resistor return both low voltage and led installs back to normal flash rates?

hey PC, better late than never here but i replaced the relay the other night and took the old one out and cut it open for a post mortem analysis.

Turns out there was a dodgy solder joing that started the problem by not properly bridging to one of the posts on the electrolytic capacitor used inside the relay. Vibration killed that poorl soldering and the vibration of the whole freaking capacitor killed the other solder joint to the capacitor. Next up is to resolder both these joints *properly* and see if that fixes the issue. If it does then great! I'll then add a dob of hotglue to the capacitor & pcb to keep it from future vibrations.

Otherwise i've got another peice of crap to throw out as the bike managed to kill it!

p.s. i don't know htf it happened, but my bike lost highbeam as well, i didn't notice it until the other night, tore plastic off and measured freaking everything, but it just didn't work. Ended up removing the fuse to check it hadn't blown, put it back in, and the f)#$*#($&(#*#(@#(#*ing highbeam worked! Stupid arse electrics problems, i *HATE* them.

Hi,

I follow your suggestion and buy a relay, similar to yours, but the flashers don't flash... always on. Someone knows what can be the problem?

The flashers:

Thanks

Best regards

I would forget the ebay relays. I went through a couple before installing one of the common red Narva LED flasher units you can get from any automotive stores for a bit over $10. Been over a year now and never touched it again. I unplugged and removed the old unit, tapped off the wiring to feed the new one and left the OEM connector there incase I ever wanted to go back.
