Where to get leathers altered in Sydney

Postby Dizzi » Sun May 17, 2009 12:10 am

I bought a wicked leather jacket for riding a few weeks ago it fits perfectly everywhere except around the neck, tends to choke when riding, don't think it would be a good idea for my air supply to be cut off when riding. So far the recommendations I have been given are Venus in the city, DBT Leathers at Yagoona and there is a possible nother place in the city called Sew Special if anyone knows any of these and would recommend would appreciate your input or if there is someone even better, I also need my draggen jeans taken in and am I hearing right that Draggen jeans are crap?

There's a mobile guy that follows the racers around. MICK'S FIX LEATHER REPAIRS PH: 0411 966 097... He was at Oran Park last week St George Meet..
Give him a call and he can tell you where is going to be next. Watch the racing whilst you get your mods done.....
He is also out and about midweek between races......
He charges $60.00 per hour or $1.00 per minute............. 5 minute job = $5.00.........sweeeeeeeet :D

From the research that I did Draggins aren't too bad when it comes to kevlar jeans, and people thought they'd done a better job than Hornees etc in similar accident. You'll find positive and negative stories from what I saw, depending on how well they saved someones skin, in the end YOU have to make up your mind because it's your skin on the line.

To state the obvious you're always gonna be better off with textiles/leathers, and now winter's in what I'm doing it putting some large armoured textile pants over my pants - warm and better protection.

There's a lady named Irena in Sydney (don't know the business name) and all reports I've heard are good. She is a rider as well so she knows her stuff and understands how important it is. I was going to get my leathers repaired by her but they were replaced with new ones by Mat Mladin. Her number is 0410511840.

As for Draggin jeans. They just don't protect like the other stuff. I've got some and never wear them as I just don't feel protected enough in them.

Draggin & Hornee are not much better than jeans.... reason.... NO ARMOUR! Ron had a small off & the draggin's actually burnt the skin from the friction & I have heard of small slides creating holes + forward slide (Legs first) the Draggins rode up the leg exposing bare leg because they are too soft.
Dririder do some good textile pants that will offer heaps more protection than Jeans type pants & have ARMOUR! there is a heap of stuff better than Draggins & IMHO I would never consider them as an alternative. At the moment I am unsing a set of Alpine stars leather pants & Teknic textile jacket.

Thanks heaps guys. I might try Irena I think she is the one that works at Venus which is just down the road from where I work in the city and thanks heaps for all the input on the draggens, bit diappointing because I love the look of them and stuff but if they don't protect that well it's not worth it. Ok so when you guys refer to textile is that like the all weather RJays gear that you can get, I have an all weather RJays jacket which is awsome that has all the armour in it to, so do you recommend I get a pair of pants like that or just stuff it and go straight to the leather ones.

Personally I think leather is the way to go - it's not *too* hot in summer and not *too* cold in winter, offers fantastic protection and is comfortable to boot.

+1, although I don't know about the comfortable comment. :? You might be able to get a zip put in to your jacket while it's getting fixed so it can zip to a pair of leather pants.

Yeah that is the plan eventually, for now I just need to get the neck area fixed up so it doesn't choke me when riding, hmmmmm might look into a pair of leather pants to then. The thing with the jacket is it won't be a small fix up job it's going to have to be altered in such a way that it doesn't choke but still offers protection. I can't wait to come out and watch the racing I can't believe how quickly when you start riding how addicted you get to all the bike stuff, I assume it is the honeymoon period and maywell pass but am loving my new addiction for now. Funny part is I really like riding at night, don't know how safe that is but there are less cars on the road and it's easier to see lights oncoming, but for now will just have to be patient and get the practice up so can get up onto pacific highway at least. Guess night riding works because it's the only time I can practice at the moment.
