Fines stiffened for driving with mobile
May 9, 2009 - 12:24PM The Age

The penalties for talking on a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt while driving will jump by nearly 50 per cent in Victoria this week under new laws.
On-the-spot fines will go up by $73 to $226.84 for each offence.

The bigger fines are part of the Victorian government's aim of reducing the road toll and serious injuries by 30 per cent or from 332 in 2007 to 237 by 2017.
Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas said talking on a hand-held mobile phone while driving was reckless and increased the risk of an accident four-fold.
Not wearing a seatbelt was also a factor in 18 per cent of driver fatalities.

"Too many motorists still think they can have a mobile phone in their hand and be dialling or texting while trying to drive in traffic," he said

and I think this is GOOD!
means cagers might concentrate on the traffic... and not the phone

Not going to happen, but the gumbyment will increase revenue. Anyway, all you Victorians drive around looking at your speedo to make sure you dont go 3k's over the limit anyway ;)

True. The fine here for talking on your phone is already $222 and that hasn't stopped the arse clowns from not watching what they are doing.

If it was up around $500 and 2 or 3 demerit points, then it would have a deterrent effect !!

Can't happen soon enough...... 8)

Loss of license wouldn't stop the knobheads either.
My concern is that my 76 yr old Father scratched his ear and was pulled over for talking on his mobile :?
Young coppa would not look at his phone to check the log and was going to book him anyway.
Lucky for that little smart arse the senior coppa gave him the benefit of the doubt :)

Now we're to fucken terrified to scratch
