Handlebars

Postby haiiro99 » Sat May 02, 2009 8:43 pm

Started to take the ZX apart to try and fix the track damage. I've managed to fix the radiator but the handlebar's proving to be a headache.
The bar itself is straight but the mounting clamp is bent (by a couple of degrees) making it hard to turn left and twist the throttle at the same time thanks to the right hand being pushed into the (dent in the) tank.

I was thinking of putting this on a clamp and trying to bend it back but that's could prove to be a bit clumsy.
Would bars off a 9R or a ZZR fit on the 6? Looking at the microfiche it looks like the 9R part will fit.
Also, is there anything I need to look out for when I try to take the bar off? I'm guessing I have to take the top triple clamp off first, and then put it back on, and wanted to know if there was anything that's not mentioned in the manual (i.e you need a special assembly aid (eg Hercules) to budge bolt 'x' etc or move 'y').
Cheers again

You could always replace your bars with a set of Vortex or woodcraft clipons.

To remove the part in the picture, just loosen the upper and lower triple clamps and slide the fork leg down enough to get the bar holder thingy off the top of the fork. No need to remove the triple.

Cheers :) That sounds a bit easier than I thought.
I don't trust aftermarket clipons (possibly unjustifiably) because I read a post on another bike forum about a track accident from when a clipon slipping on the fork leg as the rider was going into a corner. I like how the stock ones bolt onto the top triple.

If you want a cheaper alternative try Lucky at http://www.ftpstunts.com. or 0408226616

I got my bars for the tracky from him and they were pretty well priced. Good quality too and $99 at the moment
