Bike Jerks

Hey All

I was wondering if anyone's ZXR250 or any bike jerks when they are low on fuel??? i still have fuel in the tank but the bike starts jerking, so i pull over and switch the fuel switch to Prime and then RES then it fires up again. Does that sound normal?

Damn, I was expecting some thread about the local Bandidos chapter...

..sounds normal to me, how much fuel does it still have in the tank?

Mick- LOL the closest ill ever get to a local Bandidos chapter is playing GTA4. Well the tank is nearly empty, a bit splashing around still.
its farking dodgy the bike start jerking in the middle of riding does ur Honda do it as well wen low on fuel?

That is just the bike telling you that you need to switch to reserve and go get some fuel! Completely normal for ANY bike with a reserve switch!

Sounds pretty normal mate, it's probably the fuel pickup momentarily sucking fumes as the fuel sloshes around inside the tank...

My ZZR600 did much the same thing, but at this point you had 30 seconds to find the reserve tap or you were screwed. I haven't been game to let the Hornet run dry as it has no reserve switch (it has EFI) and it'd be a pig to push. As soon as the light comes on I fill it .

unfortunately the older bikes don't have the fuel lights. Ratmick- your saying that u can actually switch the tap to reserve without stopping the bike and it will stop jerking aye?

Thats what he means . Practice finding your fuel tap while you are riding so you know where it is when it starts running out of fuel next time . But better still reset your odometer every time you put fuel in and work out how many Kays you get till it hits reserve , then make sure you keep the tank topped up when you get close to that amout of kays .

Waaaaaaaaaaaaay Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when I had a brand new RZ250, I carried a 4ltr can of fuel in my gearsack, then I rode until I hit reserve. I switched the tap to reserve while still moving along and reset the trip meter to "0" then continued to ride until konking out.
Then I knew exactly how many klm's "to" reserve and exactly how many Klm's "on" reserve.
Probably easier for me to do because I was a Bannockburn Boy and there was a lot less traffic around, mmmmmm, lets say 2 yr's ago

Spot on. You should know how many k's your bike gets on a tank without having to rely on the reserve. I used to get about 250 - 300k's from a tank on my ZXR250 before it would hit reserve, but I would always fill it at about 240 or before. Same on the 10. Its got a fuel light, but I always fill it at around 230k's. I hate running out and having to push though, so if you like pushing to keep fit, rely on your reserve

heheh yea its abit dangerous Seiko doing that around Sydney farking traffic everywhere!!!! and ill make sure i test it this time around and see how many k's it takes before it starts to jerk again.

Try not to let it go empty yhough. I did that on my 9 and dam took good 5 minutes to get it going again! Tried roll starting the lot and it farken wouldnt start. Got going eventually! tho
