looking for a new broadband provider

Postby waynemorgan » Sat Apr 04, 2009 11:42 am

Hi everybody,

I'm giving my Vodafone wireless the flick - totally unreliable. Currently I'm looking for a good ADSL2 / VoIP package - say >20gb per month. I've looked at TPG and Exetel - both seem to have good packages but I see TPG really has a lot of complaints on http://www.whirlpool.net.au (which looks to me like a massive "whinge" board more than anything - nobody there happy with any providers).

Exetel (with home line) - $65 in 60Gb off peak + 12Gb on peak and 100min voip
TPG - $49.95 - 50Gb (25/25) and 500 min voip.
I'm looking around the $50 per month level or more if the home ph is included.

Are there any other suggestions out there? What is everyone else using?

Cheers and TIA,

Wayne :D

I used to work for TPG back when trying to get $5 outta them for advertising their product was near impossible, now they got friggin ads everywhere, that being said, i'm with IPrimus on an ADSL2+ package running at 6Mb and no complaints about the service, just my POS router and that's no fault fo the provider as I purchased my own :(

Look into OPTUS ... Ive been with em for years now and probably only had to call em twice in all that time.

They have an ADSL2 plus phone package that is pretty bloody good ..

Thus beit my 2cents worth ;)

Optus wireless is a little hit and miss in peek times, you keep dropping in and out. When it's on form though it's excellent.

Limited downloads though, only 12gb when I took our package out 6 months ago, includes fone, all local calls and std. $80 if I remember right without asking the boss :D

Working for telstra gave me a big overview into how dodgy broadband providers are... And yes telstra is pretty bad too.

But id steer clear of exetel and tpg... Fkn rogues! They were far worst that i saw. Just dodgy dealings. And i delt with exetel first hand... they cut our net off, took my adsl port and told me to contact them via email... WTF I HAVE NO INTERNET U FCKTARDS!!

Optus are ok, Adam are good but then again i have a feeling they are only in SA, internode are getting slightly better and there is another one i think it might be iprimus.. they are fairly decent in service and price...

haha and FYI... if ur internet provider tells u it takes 10 working days to put adsl codes on, its legally only 3 ANNNND if they haven't put ur codes on and they blame telstra tell em to grow some balls and just accept there service is slow and deal with it. hahahaah ahhh memories of the calls i used to get muahaha

I'm with optus, when I went wireless I bundled with my mobile & got 6 gig for 50 bucks a month, 2 yr contract with every 3 mth free. Not that I've ever come close to using 6 gig.... Speed is roughly 7kb/s

have not had any probs until just this month when it started dropping out after first connecting, but think this is more likely to be my new firewall.

I'm with Optus, not too bad.

Seen a few 'NetSpace' ads on the telly lately, check 'em out.

im with iinet on a home 5 bundle (25g peak/40g offpeak bundled, 10/15 without bundling)and that costs just on $100/month for everything. Not the cheapest out there but its a good deal as it includes the home phone, which is enough for me & the hugs'n'kisses and plenty of bandwidth. Haven't looked into the whole voip thing to be honest as just bundling the phone is enough of a "eggs in one basket for me". here is their plans page if you want a look, they've got stuff about voip there, i've just never bothered using it!

Go Internode, they are good stuff. we got ASDL2+ for $75 a month with 25GB dl. I've used internode for 4 years now and never called them 1 ever. Never had an outage, so i think i got nothing to complain about.

Even if u get a lower DL limit if u go over they just cap your speed which its still good, means u have access even if it is slow.

Where i am we are running off an Optus exchange and being only 500m's from the exchagne, when i run thee cable to the PC i get about 18mb/s a sec, on wirless about 12mb/s which is pretty dam fast imo, takes approx 9 minutes if i was to download an 800mb movie file

check out this site to see where the exchanges are, that can help determine best speed to get also. http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/

I am with iinet...not on a top packet like Mike
but a $49.95 a month ADSL/VOIP plan (now no longer offered as I have it..they changed it all)
never a problem with this 10gb/20gb plan...never got anywhere near it

Internode or Westnet are the better ones out at the moment!

I've been a big fan of Internode for a long time. Also had reasonably good experiences with iiNet too, but like others, I've never had to call them either.
