Anyway, anyone out there have this phone and running any good GPS software apps? ... ie . . tom tom, route 66, i go etc etc ... or perhaps those running WM 6.1 and doin the same.

I keep getting the UK and US site results when searching but would like some "local" feedback if poss..... :D

And it was good

Hi,

I have iGo v6 and v8 for my iPaq (WM 2003). v6 is what I use (v8 doesn't fit my screen properly). Works well I find but doesn't have some of the fancy features of some of the newer software - e.g. Mobile XT will find servo's etc near where you are, iGo wont.

On my n95 I use Garmin MobileXT - excellent in some ways but entering an address is PAINFUL.

Got them on eBay fairly cheap.

Cheers,
Wayne :D

I have a HTC TyTN Ii running WM 6.1 and it came with Co-Pilot Live pre installed. Best turn by turn GPS software I have used yet.

I have a HTC touch Pro w6.1 and besides being brilliant I can tell you this, you are not exclusively using gps tracking unless you do some reg edits, you will find that although you have the latest satnav software (regardless of the company) you will need to turn off something like gps assist or whatever it is called in regedit because it will utilise your 3G network first and gps 2nd. No phone to date can work even close to a hand held dedicated unit without reg editing and hacked roms.

Just my opinion, trying to get this suker to work takes some serious internet searching and even begging to the gurus who can make it work a bit and that has flaws. Better off with a dedicated tomtom or garmin etc. Phones just dont have the chips onboard yet for the major co's to be seriously interested, yes I know they make software for your unit but w6.1 or before aint doing it without a hack.

Like I said it is just my opinion.

Hi Jonno,

I've not had that problem on either the iPaq or my N95. The iPaq has GPS assist but it never connects unless I do it manually. So my phones always go straight to GPS - either the internal or the external bluetooth. Never had to edit any registry entries on te iPaq.

Mind you thats WM 2003 - maybe the cost of "progress"? :D

The N95 is great - I love it with the GPS on.

Cheers,
Wayne :D

No worries Jonno, :D

The iPaq is absolutely crap at everything else but the GPS is the one good thing it does. I've always wanted WM 6 / 6.1 so now I'm glad I dont.

Love progress - it explains VISTA as well - :D

Cheers,

Same Same.....my HTC connects directly to GPS, has never even tried to go 3g or HSDPA and when compared in a side by side with my dads Tom Tom XL was faster to start, locate, map and had a better variety of route options.

Strange you say that, what mapping software are you running?
To even turn off GPS assist in my HTC Touch Pro and earlier Diamond (and everyone else on XDA) I needed to install a reg editing package and even tried another cooked Radio ROM after unlocking it, are you sure you have it turned off?. Maybe it is OEM/service provider roms that create this issue?

But I do know without reg hacking GPS assist (at least on my HTC 3Mobile phones) will automatically triangulate between mobile towers particularly with google maps and this is included in you bandwidth use. I also used developed GPS software and that did work a treat. Haven't been on XDA for a while now but they are worth a look, I am going to check out that link thanks Rossi. 8)

Must be just the Raphael (touchpro and diamond), because you don’t know it actually does it until I read about it then pulled the sim to see if it was so. Then when I ran google maps it wouldn’t pickup anything and will error, turning off gps assist in reg edit netted the same results, put sim back in and G'maps works on 3G only and is not a true GPS by that account. But hey, it may just be my model/type and even the radio ROMs I am using, I run another free GPS package at present and with the hacks in reg' it locks 3 sats in less than 3 seconds outside and 8 sec's inside but the maps are crap.

Anyway, that’s what I found and obviously is model dependant. 8)

Yeah in hindsight I should have waited for the omnia, the HTC is awesome but is a PITA as a phone
