RGV250 Track Bike

Postby Bogan » Fri Mar 20, 2009 12:36 pm

Duplication on the internets is wonderful, I feel a little bit dirty but here's my new toy (this is the 4th forum I've posted it in).

Picking it up shortly for a tracky, comes with the rest of the street fairings, full set of race glass and a few other bits and pieces.

Watch this space. Budget bike but want it to go fast on a budget :). Don't wanna spend too much on it, it's a Suzuki...

Is the lawnmower engine part of the deal?? :) :)

Sounds like a fun little project.
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

I guess the lawnmower engine is a spare..

Absolutely, you can never have enough clam. And I think the mower is 4 stroke it's no good to me.

1st mod you want to make is to the material used for the pins which hold the power valves together. They are alloy as standard and this is the main issue with them. They wear out and allow the power valve to slide into the chamber so the piston can chew it to bits. :D Replace them with some hand made stainless pins. Problem fixed. There was an old guy down here in Melbourne (He was in his late60's back in the mid 90's so may no longer be with us) who was a genius with these RGV's. If you didn't want it for Proddie racing he could make it as fast as the then Domestic 250 GP bikes. A mate had his motor done and it was faster than a ZXR750L to 200k. Insane! Also...just remember the two stroke racers motto...."Seize the day,..... jet richer tommorrow"!!
"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me" Hunter S. Thompson.
There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

Hey Tony,Regarding the sound of the powervalve's you were wondering about......I found out yesterday that mine don't make a sound cause it has "blanks"(sometimes known as race valves) in it....What this mean's is that it is a solid valve which dosn't move at all it's always fully open....The guy said it's fine if it's just a track bike but not recomended for road use as you loose a lot of midrange and it's all just top end  ....But the good side I guess is that he reakons they should last forever  ...

More pics, it came home today W00t!!! Have to do a bit of routine maintenance and inspection, then put it on a weight loss program, put the track glass on and go ring a ding dinging on the track somewhere soon :).

Righto, so it's had a tub, and I've started pulling road gear off it. I don't want to go to extremes to get the last grams off it for racing, but I've taken off the horn and lights and blinker relay and rear blinkers and plate holder etc. which has left a bunch of wires up the front and back. Not wanting to cut them off in case the bike ever returns to the road, what do I do with them? Tape up the ends and poke them back down the holes in the frame so they sit under the tank/somewhere covered?

Also with regard to the left switchgear (well both of them for that matter) the left switchgear has the choke mechanism so do I have to leave it there if I want a functional choke? I think the only thing I need from the right switchgear is the kill switch, but I generally turn the bike off with the key anyway.

What else can I pull off? I've got rid of the rear pegs and seat cable and stuff, the rear subframe is pretty bare without being cut to bits with a hacksaw, what else on a roadbike don't I need that will still leave it reliable?
