ZX6R Problems

Postby drowy » Tue Jan 13, 2009 7:49 pm

Hi all, im hoping someone can help me. I have a 1995 zx6r which was running like a dream up untill about 4 weeks ago. i just filled up with fuel and about 2km down the round the bike starting running rough and loosing power, she eventually stalled on me and would not start. around a hour later i managed to get her to start and she ran really rough all the way home. you can feel the bike holding back till i opened the throttle up and she took off but started to do it all again. Anyway i drain the fuel out of the tank, replaced the fuel filter, oil filter, spark plugs and air filter and she has had 4 full tanks of fuel since then. she is still running very rough still holding back the power till i opened her up.

Please help.. im sure i need to drain the carbs but i dont know how can someone please help me do this..

Thank you in advance
Andrew

Makes no diff in a carbed bike mate! It only seems to fuck with EFI!!

Sounds like you have some shit stuck in the float bowls of the carbs. I think I have the same issue with my Rex atm too! Remove carbs, strip, clean, reassemble and refit. Not sure where you are, but if in Melbourne, I get back around the 23rd of Jan and I would be happy to do it with you as I know these things inside out back to front upside down and any other way you can think of it!! I've pulled more F series ZX6's apart than I've had hot dinners!!!

I can't wait till I know the Rex as well as I do the F model 6's!!!

also if your located in NT or SA the Opal fuel (non sniffable) that is dishes out in some areas of those states does exactly what you have described.

I had to travel behind a mate who filled up on it at 90km/h from Wauchope NT (just south of Tenant creek) to alice springs (700+km) on some of the straightest road known to mankind and in 50deg heat before he could put 2 bottles of carbie cleaner through it, and it still ran like shit for another 2 tanks of premium petrol

Check your float levels I recommend you up the level to 18mm or 19mm thats 2mm more than the book says and if your still having problems check or replace your fuel filter if that doesn't work I would suggest your fuel pump might need to be replaced
