Oil-leak

Postby Disco » Fri Jan 02, 2009 6:10 pm

Hey guys, just got back from a run down the coast and noticed a streak of oil on the left hand side fairing. On closer inspection with a torch theres oil everywhere from just above the headers enough to coat the whole front of the motor, hoses and headers.Tried to take a pics but didnt turn out real good.Any ideas?I'm kinda hoping its just a rocker cover gasket.BTW its an '07 ZX6R.
Also should be ok to ride it the 10k's to aitkens yeah? And does anybody know if they are open tomorrow or are they on hol's?

07 kawasaki is just the same as a 63 Holden. So long as the oil level is kept up it should go anywhere.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

If you have an oil leak start looking for a triumph to go with it, they're notorious for em..

 just clean it up with some degreaser & let her run to try to work out the location of the leak..... could be a loose bolt? anyway your bike is too new to have a leak

Have you done the oil filter/cap up tight? Wrong viscosity oil won't leak, just might ping a bit.

Seems a bloody young bike to be doing gaskets already.. but i'm not a mechanics arsehole so spose it's possible, just thinking that I used to own a ZZR600 96 model and now a 98 model 9 and neither have ever done any gaskets...

check you oil level isnt over full.

i had a bit too much oil in my 10, and on atrackday it started to weep out the rocker cover gasket.

i think madkaws did the same. but only really happened at the track, where the revs are high for 15mins at a time sort of thing. :kuda:

check you can see air in the sight glass. should be a about 2 thirds full on the glass. when the bike is upright. 8)

When i got the bike back (after the last track day) the level was high.I noticed upright the sight glass was full (no gap) but on the stand about 3/4.It was about a 300k run I went on when i noticed when i got back.Could it really just be too much oil? Will dumping some fix this or will it need another gasket?

Cheers Dave....
