2 ignition barrels broken....

Postby fadz90 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 10:51 am

hey all, about a few months ago my bike broke down because of its igniton barrel, the wires in the back were faulty and everytime they moved it would cut out the bike completly.

i had this problem fixed by a mechanic which he says he got it from the wrecker, and when he got the barrel cut for my keys, i didn't realise this until a few weeks ago that when the ignition is on the "ON" part you can take out the key... i went back to him and he said thats normal?

anyway, that barrel that he replaced cut out again on last sunday, same deal, the wires in the back, if they moved lef tto right, just lightly without any hard force it would cut out. He ( the mechanic) said that it was my fault because i kept movin it around, which is all lies because he chnaged it and i didnt touch it. Having the bike turn of completely on me at 80 km/h isn't something im looking forward to..

i'm currently using another ignition barrel of my other zx-2r which is running fine, works a real treat. they key dosen't come out in the "on" position, it doesn't cut out or nothing...

has anyone ever heard of this problem? i went to the wrecker but he's charging me $80 for a barrel and it didnt look like it was in good condish..

should i get a brand new one?? and how much are they..

also.. how often do these wires stuff up.. i've had 2 barrel break down in 2 months... within 5 rides...

cheers.

like you wouldn't believe... well he's not ym mechanic anymore, unless im really desperate.. lol

get this, i went there to tell him about the ignition and he told me, why are you riding your bike.. your motor is going to blow, because i had problems with the cam chain tensioner ( which he ruined..) i told him i got it fixed, hes like how?

long story short he started to tell me that the new cam chain and the new tensioner pieces weren't new they were from the wreckers, etc etc trying to make me feel bad, im like dude, its running fine relax just becuase you couldn't fix it doesn't mean you can bag out other people. absolute wanker.. lol

I do believe the above was said a couple of months ago

good to see your moving forward. you should have that trouble with barrels. Being an old bike it may have went but once fixed if it goes again then there may be an underlying issue.

How many keys do you have on your keyring? might have something to do with your problem.

before i used to have alot of keys, but when i first changed it, i only had 2, igniton and the lock. the igniton barrel he gave me wasnt cut properly and behind it there is a metal piece holding the wires and it looks like it has squashed one of the wires, maybe its cut? everything on the bike seems to be running well, new battery, everything is charging properly, all electrics are well. i think i just was unlucky when i got the igniton barrel the 2nd time around, im going to try and chase a brand new one, because i want to run my other bike so i have to get another barrel eventually.
