Tractor wanted,

Postby kaneg » Wed Dec 10, 2008 5:02 pm

Dear kSRCians :kuda: ,

As you're a bunch of very versatile guys and gals, I have to share this dilema with you and hope that at least one of you will have some knowledge or advice that i can take on board.
Joy and myself are living on a 2.5 acre property on the Central Coast. We recently had the overgrown part of the land cleared of lantana, privit, etc... consequently we have gained a huge section of land that we didn't even know that was ours.
Now, it's one thing to pay some dude to clear your land and another is to keep it controlled and maintained so that all the crap doesn't grow back. Our ride on is clearly is not the machinery for it.
We need a TRACTOR with some attachments.
On advise of the dude who done the work and who is third generation land clearer, we are looking for a :
35 -50 hp 4wd tractor
Brands : Massey Ferguson or Kubota
Has to have a slasher (5 ft howard preferably)
4 in 1 bucket
Front end loader
Rear grader Blade
Want to pay under $10K for a reliable unit, doesn't have to be pretty

Any input is appreciated

yep,
goats were an option, till we found out two facts:

1) their urine stinks man :vom:
2) they will eat lantana and like you said anything , but lantana will kill them at the end

So , back to something that takes diesel...

Thanks Rob, of course that's a sensible option, however you have to see the land, it has steep parts that takes you down to a creek, the creek has to be widened and deepened just moderatelly, and those areas will take a couple of years of creating the landscape, plus all the jobs around the place, like falling down fence posts, creating a veggie garden, building a pan for some hens, plus I JUST WAT ONE......
For as long as remember, I admired the earthmoving machines  and what you're able to do with them in a relativelly short period of time. In all fearness the place deserves it.
If I dont go for anything fancy, but get a used workhorse, if I done the big stuff and I find that we don't use it like I thought that we would, we wouldn't loose money by selling it.
The fellow who done the clearing just called 5 minutes ago, he will have a look on the upcoming clearance sells for us, we not in a huge hurry, but having said that, the weed doesn't stop growing for anyone...

The funny thing is that you know when a new model 10 comes out and your peripherral vision is always on the look out for that new shape, or a great ass, etc... well , has one got a propblem when it's tractors that grab your attention ???

Have you thought of contacting an agronomist and have them advise if you can spray it with timber control or alike? It takes time, but kills the plant outright.

Also, im sure that an earthmoving company has a D6 dozer for hire that could be a cheap alternative to your tractor especially if it is steep or rocky! I drove one in a former life time, they get a lot done in a short period of time. A skilled driver will make it pretty cheap.

Otherwise, try buying "The Land" newspaper and scan the classifieds.

Hi Pete,

Here are some links to some businesses which may/may not be able to help you (my work deals with moving of earthmoving machinery around the world). These mostly deal with 2nd hand machines.
http://www.redheadmachinery.com/ - ask for Les or Corinna
http://www.expressway.com.au/ - ask for Geoff (they may deal only with parts, not sure 100%)
http://www.emeco.com.au/ - offices in Gosford & Ingleburn should be able to help you

Like I said, they may OR may not be what you are looking for. There is loads more of these companies in Australia, but you probably don't want to look beyond NSW cause it'll cost you to get it trucked around. You can tell them Rachel from Freightplus dropped their names - I promise they won't put the prices up !!!!

Try GWS Machinery in Windsor. They sell that sort of stuff. They are also a Kawasaki Dealer ( only for Mules).
Remember, half the people you know are below average.
