thats a spot of bad luck mate ! I wondered about the new (and since gone  ) avatar....I thought it was cool but the kids used to freak out a bit

3 months will rip past. Its only 12 weeks really....

How long since we had a thread about *total* licence suspensions.......I'm up to 88 convictions so far, not 'all' speeding, but a shitload are   it would be nice to finish up with the Don's average !!!  Have to say that the licence has been in reasonable nick now for the last 5 years ..... .....knock on wood.

nope... the cost was 4 points as well

The only way i got a full 12 points back was the fact that the 30-45 over got me to exactly 0 points. Had it gotten me into the negative by 1 or 2 i'd have gotten the same. If i had one point left and it got me to neg three then there would have been a mandatory extra month. So when came June last year, along came 12 points with it.

Your right though, don't think about it and it goes quickly. I didn't think about it until about 3-4 days before i was scheduled to get it back and then called the rta to confirm the day it gets lifted. I was then advised it is often best to wait an aditional 24 hours to make 100% sure that your license is reinstated (and even then call to check) as there have been instances in the past where people got in the car in the scheduled first day back on the road, only to be pinged and get a further suspension simply because the batch processing of the suspensions failed to go through on time. In these cases, even though it later got overturned due to the technicallity, they still had to go to court because the copper decided/had to stick to the rules and not give a warning/tell them to go home until it was sorted, etc.

The letter I got said I had to go to the RTA to get the license reinstated, sounds like the safest way to me + I am having trouble finding out if I get the 4 points back or not :? I had 12 before getting pinged so I am hoping that the suspension negates the loss of points.... does anyone know black & white?

Suspension won't negate the points Rob unfortunately. Been there, done that too many times. That only happens following a suspension for losing all your points. I lost 26 not too long ago (figure that one out) ;)

sorry, at work, was a busy moment when i hit submit. That's not the case? in all seriousness what then happens if you go into negative territory when you initially get snagged for something? aside from the either 3 months walking / 1 year good behaviour that is (which i recently completed, having had to do either both or 6 months walking according to the rta). I was just reading into the penalties from what i could find/understood at the time.

With excessive speed in this case..... 30 over but under 45 ther is no option on 12 months good behaviour. so the loss was mandotory.

Little birdy told me that they were going to change the points (reduce the points to what they used to be) because there were too many people driving whilst disqualified... sounds like BS but sorta makes sense as the points system does not seem to deter people

I went into negatives by a hell of a lot. I completed my 1 year good behavior and received all 12 points back

what i meant was, i was walking for 3 months anyway for 30-45, But i had the extra 3 months walking or 12 month good behaviour option for getting to 0 points, i will admit though, I didn't know the hows and why's about getting into negative points. i did the latter, succeeded, and now admit they've made me into a bit more of a pussy on the roads.

3 months regardless of how many points you incur, 12 or 24.. yeah doesnt make sense but thats how it is..and 12 back at end.

hopefully they review the demerit points system soon, heaps of people are losing their licences in nsw..it's currently at the stage where 2 minor speeding offences and your licence is done and dusted..fuckin rta and police assholes..

easy to say neil if you live in QLD..for the same offences that got me to 12 points in NSW would render me no more than 4 points in QLD..

You should now understand why they are considering a change to the demerit points system in NSW..
