me and my new bike

Hi,

I picked up my er6n this morning. Yay! (she says nervously)

Brief history - i've been riding a scooter around the inner city for the past couple of years and felt the urge to get something that would go further and be more comfortable while doing that. Looked around at heaps of bikes and the er6 was the only one that felt right. I still don't feel overly comfortable with it = afterall changing from a 150cc scooter with no gears to a 650 is a pretty big change. The plan is for me to grow into it - hopefully that will happen reasonably painlessly.

If anyone has a similar story i'd been keen to hear how you coped and hopefully learn from you. I know I have a LOT to learn and will take anything on board.

By biggest concern is handling the weight - it is alot heavier than the scooter. As long as i'm moving i'm ok - it's just at a standstill, i feel unsure about my ability to handle the weight. I'll be sticking to known routes for the next few rides so I shouldn't have to deal with stopping somewhere where the road is too uneven. At least I made it home without mishap and I'd never ridden on the north shore before.

All advice/tips/help/whatever appreciated.....

congratulations on buying a kawasaki you should find the er6n a pretty forgiving bike... i assume from the mention of the north shore you live somewhere in sydney but not on the north shore... might be handy to whack a more detailed location up so any local members can be of assistance if needed...

we have two regular rides (one north one south) every sunday and these are good for meeting other members and practicing skills

they are in the regular rides thread ( old pacific highway - north and royal national park - south)

thirdly we all like to perve on people's pride and joy so stick a couple of pictures up in the photos section...

in regards to being able to control the weight of your bike, you're on the right track... take it easy and dont rush coming to a stop... also figure out if u are going to put one foot or two feet down, ive just upgraded and still have the odd wobble with the extra weight of the new bike so everyone does it

Welcome Alison! Love the ER6, niiiice bike!
Have a look at the Advanced course offered by HART at St Ives. I found it to be good when I upgraded to my 600 just to re-learn how to do the basics on a bigger bike. Their closed circuit track is very 'road like' so it's not daunting and you can get to know your new baby in a controlled environment
