ZRX suspension settings

Postby jonoZRX » Sat Oct 25, 2008 6:06 pm

Hi all

I have NFI how to set up a bike (and NFI in general really, as anyone who attended the Winton/Broadford weekend will attest  ) and I would really appreciate some help with my ZRX suspension setup - I'm smashing the pegs into the ground on a regular basis, sometimes due to mid-corner bumps rather than lots of lean angle. From reading other peoples' posts I shouldn't really be having problems with peg clearance.

I'm 80kgs with stock suspension, and at the moment my settings are:

Front
Preload: 2 lines showing
Rebound: 4 clicks out from hardest setting
Compression: 8 clicks out from full (this definitely needs to be hardened up)

Rear
Preload: 2nd hardest setting
Rebound: II
Compression: 3

The chain tension is correct, and I'm running the mighty Dunlop Roadsmarts with about 1,000kms on them.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is it worth flipping the eccentrics? Should I just get everything re-valved and get some better springs?

EDIT - would also appreciate advice on settings for riding with a pillion.

Working on the bacon thing. Dropped approx 10kgs since getting back from Vanuatu  Is Laurie open on weekends? I just can't get anywhere during the week.

PS - Get an avatar, and don't start sentences with "and"

two more clicks on compression on front.
Rear rebound to four, rear compression to two.
Flip eccentrics.

Pay me later.

10kg? Nice one. No idea about Laurie, I think he's generally at his shop till 5.30. Probably best to give him a call.

Tried these settings, seemed to work pretty well. Front felt noticeably better. Didn't have time to flip the eccentrics, will do it next weekend and report back.

Just flipped eccentrics and returned from a test-run - it has to be the simplest and most effective mod EVER! Previously I was running out of clearance before the tyres ran out of grip - not anymore! Front chicken strips are completely gone, and I got it to break traction (without throttle) a couple of times. Pegs didn't touch down at all.

As well as the increased clearance I've noticed faster turn-in and mid-corner speed. Glanced at the speedo on a couple of corners I know well, and was pleasantly surprised. It also looks cooler with the rear raised up.

I think I've got it set now. Thanks for the help Hoffy, your settings on the front were spot on 8)
