Postby Jonno » Fri Sep 26, 2008 10:18 am

Hey

I was getting the mail out of the mail box about 2 hrs ago and a spider bit my finger, nothing bad has happend yet but I was wondering if anyone can Identify what it is and if it is poisonous. See attached pic.

I live in Sth East Qld (brisbane) and from what I can make out it could be a Badumna longingua

Seriously though if I were you I'd take that photo with you and go and see a Doctor ... but I HATE Spiders and am paranoid about that kind of thing

i would be putting it in a specimine jar and taking it down to a hospital.
some venoms dont really do anything until maybe 30 min 1 hour after you have been bit.

Nah, very much alive, wasn't its fault I stuck my big mitts into its new home. I hate spiders too and I am surprised at my calm reaction really, incie wincie spidiee is now in a nice bush in the garden (carefully transferred on end of stick) as I thought oh well he cant hurt me much more now can he.

I am still ok and I feel like I have a minor muscle strain/tiredness up my forearm but that could have been a strain from swinging off the chandelier last night
I will go to the Doctors asap if that changes, if it is toxic I hope it isn't the poison that eats flesh, rather a neurotoxin that is like morphine and you die peacefully I think :?

Got spider bit years ago by a mad arse chase ya white tail in Canberra, it left a funny painful welt at the bite site. Just searching through the pics of the critters sent goosebumps and shivers up my spine

Yeah I read about that searching for what it was!
Time was 8.30am when I got tagged, so its now 2.5 hrs since the bite.

Interesting stats on redbacks last death 1950's or something and funnel webs last human death 1980's or so they state, no stats on big huge massive nasty freaky brown mailbox-trapdoor bitieyafingus spiders tho'

Yeah I think I will be ok...

Jonno, a good spider is a dead spider! I really really really REALLY don't like spiders...
Cheers,
Anne

typical bloke...

"i got bitten by a spider but i'll just let time pass and see if i satrt to die before i go to the doctors"

i dunno whether or not this will make you feel better but my gf is the same...

one night at my place and we're lying in bed...

gf - owww ive got this really bad stabbing pain in my chest...
me - how bad is it?? can u breathe?
gf - no it hurts really really badly when i breathe, i can only take really shallow breaths
me - should we go to the hospital?
gf - no i'll be fine... *tries to roll over and winces in extreme pain*
me - are you sure?? you sound like you're in a lot of pain... and if its a stabbing ain in your chest i dont wanna risk it
gf - no no no im fine im sure it will pass....

this goes on for another couple of minutes, then she finally gives in and lets me drive her to hospital (about 1am by now)

turns out it was just a pulled muscle on her sternum, but fark me when your gf has sharp stabbing pains in her chest it would worry most people!!!!

she just refuses to take nurofen or go to the quacks when she is sick... she likes to tough it out

anyway resume normal transmission..

sorry for the hijack jonno ;)

Its funny how by simply deleting the first bit and last bit this story gets interesting.

A mate of mine woke up crook one night. He got up to pee and wash his face and when he went back to bed, he noticed a spot on his bed. It was a squashed Red Back.

I farkin' DETEST (hate isn't strong enough) spiders. They can have all that area outside, just stay the fark outta my house and shed! ;)

It's quite hard to tell from that photo, but it could just be your general household variety Huntsman...
