sand blasting

Postby fadz90 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 6:39 pm

Anyone knows a good place where i can get my bike sand blasted?

Is sand blasting a good method? Is there any better method to take out rust.

Can it be a home or D.I.Y job or is there a few complications with that?

cheers!

what sort or metal is to be blasted? we use garnet in the blaster at my work and it is alot gentler to the metal than steel shot. sand blasting will take everything incl rust, paint etc so a nice clean slightly roughened surface perfect for painting over as the paint gets max adhesion qualities if sprayed on under the right conditions. temp, humidity, time of day etc. guess it depends on how much effort you want to put in. as for blasting in your own home it takes to much time and effort to make a blaster and have it work successfully then having to get the garnet sand or whatever medium you want to use. painting well depends if your going to use the $5 cans from supercheap or a compressor and spray gun. thought about powder coating the frame. dont know what the deal is with temps and frames cause it has to be heated 160-200 deg. ask about that one.
