Neka, I have heard from a fairly reliable source that all of the manufacturers are now pushing for 1 make dealerships. It's just that Kawasaki are the first to get heavy handed (metaphoricaly speaking) about it.

The other thing is... there ARE successful one make dealrships around.

kawasaki hav pushed for it for about 5 or 6 years...in a large city like
adelaide it works..ok so ades isnt THAT big, but close to 2million ppl...
in my home town of bowral, where there was only 50,000 ppl in a radius of
120km or so, the only dealer in town was a suzi/honda/yamy dealer, cos kwaka
didnt want them being multi...it meant u had to travel abt 100km to sydney
to get a kwaka...
the local dealer was 1 of the richest pricks in town, and there were lots of
new suzi/honda/yamys around..but fark all kwaka's...
i guess in reality MOST car dealers are multi, and most bike shops are too,
and there reason for that...ppl want choice, and they like to look at
different brands at 1 venue...
if u had to go to 3 different supermarkets to get 3 different brands , would
u bother??
while i agree it CAN work, i just think it makes more sense to have more
options...

Actually, I think you said:

But the thing is, I do expect them to succeed. Kawasakis new line up is awesome. The ZX6 rocks. The ZX10 is the nastiest bike around. The Z750 and the Z1000 are going great guns. Plus, if their customer service and pricing is up to scratch then customers will be happy to shop there.

I think you'll find that most are loyal to single brands. Just a couple of local examples for you.
It's: Metro Holden, and not Metro Holden and Whoflung Korean Crap
It's: Stillwell Ford, and not Stillwell Ford and Notsowell Mitsubishi

Can you imagine a dealer selling Fords and Holdens? Sheesh.... Imagine the outrage from both sides of the fence!

There are some car yards selling more than one brand, but normally they are selling non-competing brands or they have a seperate site for each brand.

I don't mean to get picky, but personally, I quite like going into Boltons and only looking at Kwakkas. The only problem now is, they can almost charge what they want because there isn't any competition.

I can't see that Bills has done the right thing by becoming a Yamaha dealer. Now they are 1 of 4 in Adelaide. Now they have to compete with 3 other stores instead of 1 and at the end of the day that's going to hurt profit margins.

Neka, dont get me wrong, I have dealt with Bills since it was the Honda shop (bought my Black and PINK (yes that right PINK) CBR 600f from them).
The thing that shits me is in Oct I buy a bike from them (and I only ever deal with Bill Norman) and they are all, yeah the worlds great, we love Kawasaki, tilt your head on the side so we can pour in more bullshit. In Nov the end with kawa, the day I here I go to Bill and get, we'll try to help out with the warranty stuff if it comes up but can't promise it.

IMHO I think Bills are just trying to be greedy, Honda, Yamaha, MV, Cagiva, watercraft. In reality I think they wanted a slice of what ever ws selling (which lets be honest is just good business) and I can really see Kwak's side, Bill isn't promoting their product, he's promoting what ever makes a buck for Bill(again just good business).

Likewise... and I have a lot of friends and family who have bought bikes from there. I used to buy all my accessories from there, but then, one day, Bill pissed me off with his over the top greed. Now I simply don't go there.
