ZXR750J Power Restriction - How?

They actually listed less hp with flatslides on the zx7r...

Click the full specs and it says the R model with flatslides put out 4 rw hp less than the std model on the performance bike dyno test.

The flatslides work great if you have a lot of other work done but won't do much for a stock motor..

btw, the J model was strangled by cams and detuned engine to meet what they thought was going to be a Euro HP limit of 100. That model had less HP than all the others and carbies won't fix that...

I understand how cams can limit hp, and timing, and carby tuning and such, but knowing a bit about mechanicals, what do you mean by detuned engine? The engine is only a crank with some rods and pistons and a head and valves, are you meaning detuning as in timing and mixture and jetting and such?

Serious question, just wanting some more info.

I know I probably need cams and carbs to get mine to have more go go but I can't be bothered at the moment, but research is research and info is info.

'Hotter' cams tend to move power up the rev range, which is all well and good if the engine's breathing supports it.

If memory serves, compression was the other major reason the J was a torquer rather than a revver ; compression will lift power across the whole range.

I know that the ignition was different, but I'm not sure if that also entails a different curve.

Cheers,
