"Silly" Question on Bike Temperature...

Postby grunge » Mon Mar 10, 2008 6:17 pm

Hey y'all... just wanted to flick an email regarding bike temperature.....
My '06 636's temp fluctuates b/t about 75ish to about 100ish.... averaging at 80ish and I just wanted to find out what is the optimum temp for these bikes to run, if they have any...

I mean... I know that the manual says that at 120 we need to turn it off, and stuff.. so yeah...
anyone? =P

Unless it hits 110 - 120 dont worry about it
My Z750 hits 100 all the time then the thermo fan cuts in :D to save the day

on a hot day around town mine will run around 90ish...

going through the M5 tunnel at about 35km/h it hit 110... was getting ready to pull over but then came to the end of the tunnel and normality returned :D

They seem to run hot, I guess it's normal! I've been assuming that it is anyway.

my '00 zx6r runs 100 average on a sunny day and not uncommon for there to be 105-110 in traffic... is that a bad thing? Never seen it go past 110.

my thermo's kick in on the R1 about 106, and drop it down to 100 - 103ish. It runs a hell of a lot hotter than my 10 ever did.

The Gixxer regularly runs at around 105 in traffic . The fan kicks in around then and it quickly cools down.

my 05 zx6 runs at about 100. M5 tunnel about 110+ but always comes back down. Your bike sounds normal to me

When I took my ZX14 for a test ride it cooked my ankles & calves, when I questioned the dealer he told me they all run hot to help develop peak power levels so I bought the bike & just got thick jeans.

I live in FNQ & the thermo is barely off on a ride through the city, but when I get to the open road the temp settles down.

I would assume the 6 is the same.

well down here in ye olde tasmaniae in winter my 06 636 used to run at about 70c on a cold night (5c-10c night) on an average day 20c day usually ran at about 80-90c and in the toy run when just potterin along at 10-20km/h it got right upto about 110c.

Bare in mind tho, these style of bikes are designed for the track. When we had my mates R1 out on the track on sunday it was sitting at a nice 75c and that was doing over 240km/h on certain sections! So most sporty bikes get a bit hot under the collar when not given a good thrashing to get teh wind moving!

I have to agree with all of the above. My o7 10r runs about 65-75 on a cold night like tonight but sits around 100 at day time in traffic. For some reason me fan cuts in early for a 10 at aroumd 92-93deg, but when I was riding in NT and SA deserts at around 50deg heat and at 130-150kms consistantly the temp sat at about 90. GOTTA love that ram air hat36.gif

05 zx6r would regularly run pretty warm, upwards of 110 when putting about slowly in summer, the fan would only drop it to low 100s.
07 R1 is runs even warmer when sitting still, but has two thermo fans so cools down faster also.

Stop / start city riding kinda stuff you rarely get the airflow so 100ish is pretty normal.

Open road should see high 70's to mid 80's.

If you owned a GPZ900R you would be happy to ONLY have 100degrees :P
