ZZR250 suspension

Postby Shifty » Wed Apr 02, 2008 12:49 pm

Hi guys

Just tidying up a cheap & nasty ZZR250.

Suspension front & rear is pretty average (read: stuffed) - my current plan is to replace the complete rear shock/spring unit with a good one from a later/lower k example, and I've spoken to a suspension shop who has suggested about $500 for a proper overhaul & revalving of the front.... or $140 for new fork seals & fluid.

Thoughts/suggestions?

And yes, it needs doing as it bottoms out.

If you have the ability - not too much required - you could easily do the front yourself for $50. The rear could probably by found for about the same cost on e-bay or just hunting around.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

Presumably 500 bucks is:

- seals, springs, emulators and fork service labour charge? I usually only go so extravagant with bikes where the shock will match the fork; and usually only the missus' machine - something like a ZZR would be best off just doing oil and seals really... unless it is to be kept for life, then yeah, go wild! :P

I need to make one of two choices... either bite the bullet and do what needs doing... or run the carn into the ground.

She gets new tyres tonight which is the really important part.... I'll see how it goes when the tyres are on it.

Ponti told me about this mean beast last night. Even he thought it was a "roughy". Seeing his taste and optimism in the old GPZ makes me think that it might be run into the ground well before those tyres are even scrubbed in! :D
Good luck with it.
