Dan's big news of 2008

Postby icebreaker » Wed Feb 13, 2008 7:02 am

Hi Guys,

Been married about 2 months now, and thought I should let you guys know that the misses is expecting. She is 10 weeks along and due on the 6/9 according to the scan.

Down side is the bike has to go for a couple years till we get over the single income fun. :( :( :( :(

Could also put me out of action for the supers and gp this year. :( :( :( :(

Congratulations to you both!

(Great news aside from the bike!)

Just a suggestion.......

Dan who???

Seriously tho, congratulations! You're about to learn the joys of having poo under your fingernails (although, I have a sneaking suspicion you already know about that), wiping away snot with your bare hands (see previous brackets), copious amounts of vomit (I can see a pattern forming), going to work on 2 hours sleep and al the rest of the god awful, pain in the arse stuff that comes with having a kid.

On the other hand, you'll also be able to experience the things that money will never be able to buy (as opposed to the above where you can purchase those experiences at several of the dodgier brothels around Melbourne): the first time your kid smiles at you, their first steps, the first time they call you Dad, the first time they decide to stand up on the seat of their three wheeler with their arms in the air shouting "blah be de dah blah boobedoo do", which I think roughly tralnslates to "Look at me Dad, I hope our medical insurance is paid up".

As for the bike, don't sweat it. The reason I sold mine is because I hadn't ridden it in over 18 months. But I still have the work bike and the race bike, so at least I didn't have to go cold turkey!

Good luck.

Great news Dan and congrats to you both... You don't muck around do ya.. :-)

Its a very difficult thing to go through and you'll be regretting it from the moment it happens. all you you can do is try to adjust your life and hope for the best. If it doesn't work out, well, they may be no turning back so lets hope its the right thing for you..

Selling the bike that is... The kid thing is great, once you get use to it..:-)

My best piece of advice, pretend the stench of poo makes you sick so you don't have to change nappies.. It won't at first while there on the milk, but once the solids starts it gets real bad, set the precedance early... :-)

Oh and the bike, get a tracky. Its a day out for the whole family..

Reece at 3 weeks old..

Great news mate. Congratulations.

I'd be trying to hang onto the bike though mate. Can't you justify based on the "cheaper to run than a car" principle
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

Congratulations to both of you, all the practice finally paid off occasion18.gif

I hope it all goes smoothly, and as has already been said, they are great little things even though you your life does change a fair bit. There are joys and annoyances at every stage of their lives...we've just gone through one of the headlice stages

It's a shame about the bike too, in fact I used having a kid as an excuse to get a bike in the first place

Brilliant news Dan, congratulations to you and Sarah!!

My Sarah and I are expecting the 3rd any day now.

My only advise, practice pretending to be a very heavy sleeper, do things like set the alarm for 3 am "by mistake" and then pretend to sleep right through it, sooner or later they get sick of the noise and get up to take care of it.......works with late night feeds and nappies too!!!
