first mod should be suspension and tyres

suspension setup well will actually increase the life of the tyres and pay for itself in no time

the infinite question how much do they do and how much do i spend
well theyll do as much as you let them and you spend as much as you've got
if i wasnt such a poor bastard id put a supercharger, NOS and just about anything else i could to make my 12 go harder or look better but dollars is the only thing that decides how far you go.(AND THE MISSUS) :) :(

The 14's first addition was protection. Radguard and GCC Tank protector.

Bike doesnt need braided lines at this stage, they will come down the track.

My next thing may possibly be suspension, had a quote of around $900 from Krooze Tune here in Melb to redo suspension.
Thought that was fairly reasonable.

Performance Mods are Two Bros Racing slip ons, DNA air filter and PC111 with custom map.
These bikes are sent out of the factory all restricted and not allowed to breath. It isnt cheap to
get it breathing, but when its done its definately money well spent i say.

So far i have spent a little over 2k on the bike. Hope this is helpful info..

Tweeddale wrote:Hi everyone,
Im soon to be buying a new bike (zx10) and am just working out a list of standard modifications to enhance my bike. But honestly as much as people talk about these modifications i dont know how good they are and how much they cost. So rather than calling my mechanic i thought i would ask you ksrcers for your insight.
I have already decided on a yoshi tri oal carbon pipe with a full yoshi system so thats out of the way.
So what i am looking at is:
Braided brake lines: What do they do? how much do they generally cost after labour? Worth it?
crash/crash knobs: Some people say they wouldnt live without them some say dont touch them? What should i spend? A mechanic job or do it yourself job? again worth it?
Steering Dampner: What does it do, does it have much effect, How much, and worth it?
Xenon bulbs/lamps: I know they just increase visibility and are a brighter light but what is the average cost for them, and is it a do it yourself job again or a mechanic job?
GPS system: Ive been looking at tomtoms latest rider 2nd edition, which looks awesome but does anyone know of a better one or have a tomtom that they can share they opinion on?
Finally is there a good alarm system (besides disc locks) that thieves cant hack or dismantle? I want something that will let an alarm go and notify me with a remote alarm, so if someone knocks it over or trys to steal it when im at work or home, i can try and catch them in the act. But ive been told those ones are extreamly easy to dismantle or hack.

Well thats enough to keep my bank card going for a while
Thanks everyone

ill make 1 last attempt at this...

braided line- hell yes..but make sure u get ADR compliant.. expect to pay $200-250 a set

oggys- $80-200 ... some need fairings to be cut..some dont.... mostly they are usefull for low speed stuff only..high speed they may flip the bike

steering damp- how fast are u?? a well set up bike shouldnt need one... but sure pay $600-1200 for one..on the track pretty handy... but ive never needed one...on any bike... then again im not a racer..

xenon bulbs- have a look at the standard lights 1st...why change em if u dont need?? 10r's have pretty good lights already...

alarm- i had a great mongoose (i think) one..worked a treat, u could adjust the sensitivity..neighbours cat didnt like it, neither did the neighbours (there own bloody fault)...cost abt $700 fitted....

gps- dunno....

And as stated, if ur buying a 10r with 170hp or thereabouts, and ur putting a $3000 full zorst, ur gunna need a PC3 and air filter and tune...so theres abt $500 for a pc3 and filter, and allow $500 maybe for a tune... so another $1000.

so..uve just bought a $15k bike..and without tyres, servicing, insurance uve already spent $5k+ on bits..not including bling (fender elim, indicators, rear cowl etc) .....and u havent had the bike set up for urself...

wot u should do is...

1.buy a bike
2. THEN look at mods available
3.get the suspension set up
4.Then think abt wot u want to achieve
5. go shopping and have fun

also...a lot of this stuff is mostly "do it urself" ..so u will save urself $$$$ in labour if u or ur mates can do the work... the only thing to get done professionally is susp set up i believe...

Third time lucky huh! Thanks for that.
I think crash knobs sound good, braided brake lines yes, steering dampner no, Xenon bulbs more for cosmetic value so maybe down on my prioritys. I might just get a slip on exhaust unless i find a bike already fitted with a system. And ill get the suspension done as well.
Thanks for your help

if u do braided lines, grab a good set of pads too... the BEST braking diff u can make i reckon is wave rotors, braided lines and good pads... on top of that a good master cylinder will help..oh how i miss the cbr's brakes!!

a slip on can only shouldnt need a pc3 unless u do air filter too...

if i bought a zx10r id do this-
set up susp
braided lines & good pads
can
fender elim
clear indicator lenses
tinted screen
integrated rear tail/indicators
good tyres
crash's
INSURANCE !!

and maybe a bit of bling...

Yep ill do all that.
Im not sure about the insurance though, ill look into it again but when i looked at getting full comp for my R6 they quoted me for $6200, and i only paid 7k for the r6 so yeah!!!!! And thats when i was 19 so ill be 21 when i get the ninja so i might be stuck with 3rd party for a few years until it goes down.

that was why i sold my old zx6r for a vtr fireblade..insurance was heaps cheaper...

when i had my blade, uninsured and binned it..cost me $4k to make it rideable...then i crashed it again... another $4k to make it rideable..looked like shit tho... if i can give ua tip, if u cant afford insurance, dont buy a expensive bike...

look at all ur options!!.. a z750/1k is a lower risk insurance... and a bucketload of fun... plus cheaper to buy ....

good luck with ur decision....

if you're not gonna insure it, buy a farking thick chain - a few ZX10R's have gone missing and an alarm doesn't stop someone lifting it into a van. You may be able to self insure a 4K prang, but when all 15k goes missing it ain'f fun (I assume, i have a big chain and fully comp ins).

Just because I don't ride the same OLD road EVERY weekend doesn't mean I don't ride...
Not sure if you guys know, but there are other places that bikes are allowed... :-)

I must admit, with holidays, fixing zx7's, and the weather, I haven't had a decent roadl ride for a while...

BTW, I haven't seen any of you lot at the track either... ;)
