Sintered Brake Pads advice needed

Hi Guys,

I'm wanting to change the break pads on my 2003 zx-6r. I want some that give a bit more performance from the word go.

I used to have sintered brake pads on my old 6r in the UK and they gave a great sound when the pads were working, a kind of whining sound that sounds awesome. I used to have Carbone Lorraine pads which were great.

I understand that EBC HH pads are common over here but reading there website, they seemed to have removed all the particles from the sintered pads that make the sound.

Can anyone recommend which brands of pads to get that offer better performance than the OEM zx-6r pads and also the great sintered breaking sound.

I have been using goldfren carbon ceramic s3 racing pads, they work heaps better than the stock pad or the ferodo sintered.

the ferodo sintered make a noise when you use them but its also wearing out the disks where the goldfren pad is softer but also cheaper and doesnt damage the disk.

I pay 60 bucks for a set off front ones and theres four pads a side.

They sound good.. do the s3's still make that sintered braking sound or are they silent?

Do they pads give any surprises such as a lot of bite early on are they similar to the oem pads of the 6r?

Can you recommend a supplier?

team moto at bowen hills sell them or at least thats where i get mine from and yes they do make some sound and are reasonably bity, actually you have to watch suddenly banging them on in trafic.

They are good pads you wouldnt be disapointed in them i can assure you ,the downside is I get 10000kms max out of them but they are half the price of ferodo and a much nicer pad so i would rather buy them and change more often.

I gave SBS Sintered pads a go on my 2000 6R a while ago. I really didn't like them. They had very little feel,, and once they got hot i found there performance was not as good as standard pads. I might have gotten a set from a crappy batch but i may as well fitted to dog turds in my calipers.
I took them out after about 2 months cause they were just shit.

I love the EBC HH pads.
They have heaps of feel, and are always predicableand can take a flogging with no adverse signs

I use the EBC HH pads on my 12, they give alot more innitial bite than the standard ones. They do make a noise though i have been told that they shouldnt, even other guys who have ridden it have commented on the noise they make.

I called teammoto bowenhills and they do have them in but at 39 a set, so looks like inflation got to them.

With the initial bite from the s3's, are they still really easily controllable with plenty of feel if you wanna break gently on dodgy surfaces?

I will see if anywhere else has them a bit cheaper, but am guessing that's a good price for pads..

OK,

picked up my pads at the weekend and installed them. Pretty straight forward install.

Gave them a spin after pumping the break lever and after a few uses they have started to be in nicely. They do offer better performance than the tokio pads which the bike came with. They feel more progressive and a bit stronger on initial contact. Nothing to make you cream your pants mind you.

No sounds coming from them yet Hoping when they bed in some more they will make that sintered 'whining' sound.

After your first emergency stop , you should get that whining sound , as you remove your nuts from the back of the tank . Slapping the side of your neck will help to put them back in place .
