Need a new helmet.

Postby MadKaw » Tue May 22, 2007 9:44 pm

After being thrown of my bike due to an errant radiator hose dislodging itself, I am now in need of a new helmet.
The Nitro took a bit of a ding on the back, no real damage but enuff that it wouldn't pass the srutineers at race meetings.
I'm looking at the OGK atm as its well priced at about $360 for the fancy graphic one and bit less for the plain one.
Anyone know any better deals.?

I know these things are personal choice, and I know you will say, you get what you pay for and how much is your head worth and all that other crap. My $280 Nitro did a great job, fitted well, looked good, saved my head and I'm only out of pocket $280 for the experience. Glad I didn't buy that $800 Arai and have to thro it in the bin after an altercation with the track surface.

I bought a $200 HJC to go racing with. Why?

1) Because it was $200 and I only have a $200 head. Well, I probably have a $100 head, but I couldn't find a $100 helmet.

2) It meets Australian standards.

3) If I crash and scratch it, I'll need another one.

4) The field of vision through the visor is awesome! I hate helmets that you can barely see out of because of the letter box opening in the front.

Only a couple of lids fit my boofhead. One is a $1100 Shoei, the other a $300 HJC. Hence I've had a HJC for the last few years. Having copped a big whack on the back of the helmet, I'm in the market for a new lid.

At Bikebiz at Parramatta today they have HJCs at $169 down from $299. Variety of sizes and colours. CS10s, CS12s, CL14s. I need a CL14, and the only size they didn't have was mine! Otherwise I'd have taken one home.

Good helmet, compliant with DOT yank standard as well as the aussie standard. For the money they're definitely worth a look.
Cheers

If you can be bothered going to Liverpool, go to MCA and ask for Nathan, tell him I sent you, he's not a kwaka friendly type person, but is a rider and has been doing some good deals for members of another site

I like the HJC's mate. The KBC's are pretty good too I think

Have heard good reports on RJays lids - were around the $200 mark. Saw them at Western's.

Shark are quite good, their visor system is one of the easiest. Try Action at Parramatta for older ones, or Bikebiz  for new models.

HJC are not too bad (the Tattoo is nice), about $199 at work (and you dont have to pay for freight.....well, maybe a scotch  )

KBC have nice graphics, but have not heard lots of complimentary things about them.

i had a squizz and asked "are the Rjays made by KBC"?

the guys response was "not confirmed, but shit it looks like it hey"

The rjays are kbc helmets.
If you pull enough parts out of a helmet you'll find a sticker inside saying who made it

Heard that from a GRO racer who stacked. Dont like them myself. I have a Shark. 8)

We get lots of whinges about the KBC's, mostly the visor. Know of a guy whose broke after 3 days of normal riding, so he supaglued it shut

I really do like the AGV Rossi Winter Test lid. But bit too pricey for me at about $890.

Dave, I bought an OGK a while back and have prolly racked up 10 or 15 thousand k's in all kinds of weather so far. I have always sworn by Arai and still have two as my race helmets. But the OGk was a real bargain I reckon, and the fit and finish are up there with some top line lids. I reckon it's as close to an Arai as anyone has got so far. The fit is very Araiesque! If they fit your rough head, they are worth consideration.
