Stopping power wheelies!

Was wondering if anyone knows if Ican pull my forks up through the tripple tree to help keep my front wheel on the ground! :shock: I went on tooth down on the front cog and the zx9 pulls a lot harder but at the track but every time I give her a gut full she wants to point skyward lots of fun but not real fast! Also would winding down the rear shock ( making it stiffer ) help keep the front planted? Any info would be sweet :wink:

stiffening up the back shock a touch will help stop the bike squating, therefore reducing it...

pulling the forks up will cause the bike to act like a barge..not so good for race track..

umm u dropped a tooth...acceleration means front wheel lift... either put more weight over the front wheel, sit further forward, or dont accelerate so hard...

Rossi, Stoner,Vermuelan etc all do power wheelies..by defination, they arent slower , its only once u go high u lose speed...

just get use to it...

Smoother on the throttle son. Use a touch of rear brake to settle it if it's lifting on full throttle.

I believe its called throttle control!

I think most bikes shops keep it next to the elbow grease and endo buttons

other way around I think - pulling the forks *up* through the clamps will quicken the steering, which is exactly what you want at a track....

However, pulling the *triple clamps* up (ie dropping the forks *down*), will slow the steering down, making it steer like a ZX12R, as you have said.... :wink: :lol:

Either way, it won't make a difference to pulling wheelies.......well, maybe if you pulled the forks up 30 or 40mm it would, but then it would be unrideable and have no ground clearance...........Perfect for the drags though !!

terminology mate... i woud ussually refer to it as "dropping the forks thru the triple tree" ...but ur right..it means lowering the headstem on the forks, changing the front turning axis ...

Could try a shim on the ride height adjuster for the rear as well although i would have thought having the front come up was all part of the fun.:D


Try lifting it 5 mm ie put a few washers or spacers in there and make sure the stock 5 mm one is already there.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

You can extend the wheelbase a touch which will limit wheelies and give more stability but will reduce turn in. You can then adjust the fork height to get turn in back to where you want it.

See where your axle block is sitting and look for how many notches you have left. You may need to get a new chain to get the wheelbase you need.

Most people dont think about it but when you change sprockets you are affecting the wheelbase unless you set it up on the same mark everytime.
