Hi ppls,Had bike serviced about 1thou k ago and has been running really well untill about a week ago when i noticed it wasn't firing as quick as normal on start up,just put it down to the colder weather.Friday out doing things in the city-a lot of stop start things, and it wouldn't fire up until after several attempts each time, but when it ran it ran sweet, when i got home i noticed the idle was a bit low(just under 1000rpm)so put it to 1100rpm.Still had same problem. Now bike won't start at all, sorta thinking it's electrical, any of you ppls have any ideas?

Check your battery. get a multimeter out on it

Probably not holding charge properly.

Have a look at this post

If you can clutch start it and it fires straight away it's probably the battery as the drain on the battery from the starter motor is not leaving enough juice for the ignition system

could be a reg rectifier too, causing too much charge to the battery, which will kill the battery...then again the stator might not be suppling enuf lektrickery...

are the plugs clean?? gaps set ok?? did they replace the plugs at service?? (wrong plugs??)

remember that the lektrickery system is..welll...tricky... one prob and away u go... i would be asking the mechanics what they did to the bike?? it may be as simple as they wound down the idle adjuster??

how does it cope at high revs??

dude,

I've been having the same problem on my 96, i put it down to the cold weather, and the fact that on one raining night and i struggled to start it, probably wasting half of the battery in doing so.

runs well, but it doesn't start as cleanly as it used too..

i'm gonna put it in for a service son anway, have the plugs changed and check the battery charge. Should iron out the problems.

also it could be a dodgy fuel or blocked fuel filter...

many thing could make it harder to start ur bike really..depend on age, whats been done etc... and keep in mind that in cooler weather, it takes more to ignite the cold air....mind u it tends to run harder, just take a little while to get going..cold weather can make ur battery struggle too...

thats why i keep a blankie on my zeddy...lol

Sounds like could be the battery, had it for quite a while (4yrs).Nothing wrong with the fuel system and have taken it for a few good mountain thrashes since the service so it nothing they did,and when i have had it going it ticked over nicely, now though there's not even a hint of it firing, just keeps cranking when you thumb the button.
Thanks guys i'll take the battery out on Saturday and check it out.

So i put a new battery in Saturday arvo, thumbed the starter, and she fired up straight away. Thanks people (Yes Duane you were right!),there goes my theory that the crank over would be sluggish if the battery were flat!
All good again ppls :D Thanks
