NIETO INTO THE TOP TEN AFTER SUPERPOLE
Assen, Netherlands, 28 April 2007 - Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) ended qualifying and Superpole in tenth place on the grid at Assen, earning a third row start for Sunday’s races.
Fonsi is confident that he can improve on his qualifying performance in race conditions, especially on a circuit he finished on the podium at in the 2006 season. He has already chosen the rear tyre he wishes to use if the hot weather conditions continue through to raceday.

Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) found difficulties in trying to find a consistently fast set-up, and despite improvements on day two of practice, he was 13th on the grid after Superpole. He will use the opportunity of morning warm-up to improve his set-up still more before the 22-lap races on Sunday, in what are expected to be dry and warm conditions.

Fonsi Nieto: “The problem is that I can’t go faster with the qualifying tyre than the competition. The Superpole lap didn’t go so bad but obviously it penalized me a bit. That could mean that we are up to the limit right now and we have to work harder to solve the problems. The positive thing is that I reached a good race pace. I’m not saying that we are in a condition to win but I think that I can achieve a sixth or seventh position. I’ve already decided which rear tyre to use tomorrow, the hard one, and I’ll give my best to get a positive result.”

Regis Laconi: “I’m not happy about the feeling I have on the bike, I cannot find good settings under braking, and I don’t understand why. I have tried many things and sometimes riding the bike feels fast - but the time is slow. It is not easy to ride right now even if we have had basically consistent track conditions to work with.”

FORET ON FRONT ROW AFTER ASSEN QUALIFYING
Assen, Netherlands, 28 April 2007 - Fabien Foret (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) claimed the front row start he wished for at Assen, after posting the fourth-quickest lap of the final qualifying session, 1’41.618.
Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) could not find a set-up that gave him his desired confidence in the front end to push at his usual high pace and qualified 12th overall with a 1’42.388, and now starts from the third row for Sunday’s 22-lap race.

High summer came early to Assen, with temperatures in the high twenties Celsius on day one and the mid twenties today, and that has made tyre selection for what may be a slightly cooler raceday a crucial part of the pre-race preparations.

Foret has strong form at Assen, having won here in 2005.

Fabien Foret: “I wanted to qualify on the front row and we’ve done that. I hope I can make a good start tomorrow and then I would like to try and manage my tyres as well as possible, because for sure we will get troubles from mid-race to the end. I am not 100% sure of my choice and we have two options, so we have to see what the temperatures are tomorrow. I feel able to ride and I have recovered 100% from my fall at Donington. I am ready to give a lot in the race.”

Pere Riba: “I have had some trouble since the beginning with the front. We have improved it a lot but it has not been enough so far and I am not really confident with the front end. As soon as I start push hard it slides a little bit, but we still have the warm-up before the race to work on it. Everybody at the top of the practice sheets is really fast but the race will be run at a different pace.”

pulled off an over taking manouvre - thought it was the last lap............... but it wasnt, there was 1 more to go.

pitty outsmarted him and got second, flying french ferret third. still its a podium and he was man enough to admit his error in the post race interview.

More like he outsmarted himself and Pitty picked up the crumbs!......By the time foret had realised that there was another lap and opened the throttle again, Pitt had pulled a second on him! It was pretty funny....even though I would have liked to see Foret get there just to see a Kwaka further up the rankings! :D

NIETO LEAVES HOLLAND IN THE POINTS
Assen, Netherlands, 29 April 2007 - Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) did not get into a pre-race position to challenge for podiums on raceday but he did leave with some solid points scores after taking a pair of eighth places.
Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) just missed out on a point in race one, even though he stopped to change his front tyre, but he recovered well in race two to take tenth, despite not finding the set-up he wanted at one of his favourite circuits.

Nieto was close to the front-runners for some periods on raceday but a couple of spells of bad luck stopped him from capitalising on his good early placings. Laconi turned around his fortunes in race two, winning a battle with Yukio Kagayama to earn his top ten status.

Fonsi Nieto: “Unfortunately we had to put a soft front tyre on the bike to be able to corner properly but this eventually held us back. In race two I didn’t make a good start but I was close to achieving a result that would have increased the team’s morale - but an insect got into my crash helmet and by the time it went away I had already lost three positions. I tried to recover them but it was impossible. Anyway two eighth places aren’t so bad.”

Regis Laconi: “Race one? I wasn’t there! I chose a soft front tyre and after few laps I was almost crashing in every corner. I returned to the box and I tried a harder front, to test it for race two. I was angry but not demoralized and I tried to improve as much as I could. Considering the problems we had all weekend, we got some good points in race two.”

FORET ON THE PODIUM AGAIN
Assen, Netherlands, 29 April 2007 - Fabien Foret (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) scored his second podium finish of the 2007 season after the 21-lap Assen race and remains second overall, now with a total of 67 championship points to his credit.
In finishing third, after overcoming a lowly position on the first lap, Foret extended his advantage over the third placed rider in the championship to 24 points.

Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) did not enjoy his Assen race weekend and he scored 12th in the race, to go 11th in the championship chase on 26 points.

Wonderful track conditions and good weather lasted right through to raceday and that helped Foret fight for the podium, but a mistake in the penultimate lap caused him to lose his chance of scoring second. He miscounted the laps and thought the race was finished, when there was one lap left to run.

Riba never settled into his rhythm at Assen, and did not have the confidence to repeat some of his impressive early season rides, but he did score valuable championship points.

Fabien Foret: “I had to fight hard to get through to the leaders but it was my fault, not the team’s that I miscounted. I was watching the trackside lap counter and my own board, so I looked at the wrong one, and I shut off after I crossed the line one lap early. Otherwise, I am pretty happy as I had to make a lot of overtakes to get to the leaders. We got a podium finish so I should be happy with that.”

Pere Riba: “I started this weekend with trouble on the track and I just could not find the proper settings for my style. Even today I started really badly and then it felt no good in the race. As soon as I started to push I lost the front and then my confidence. I tried hard but that was all I could do today.”

GIUGLIANO HAPPY WITH PROGRESS AT ASSEN
Assen, Netherlands, 29 April 2007 - WSS rookie rider Davide Giugliano (Lightspeed Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) made all the hard work put in by his team worthwhile on raceday by finishing ninth in the Assen race.
Pushing hard from the outset Giugliano, who had qualified 15th for the race, made up places and then held his nerve as he demonstrated his verve to finish second in a four rider fight for the last top ten positions.

His ninth place puts him 15th in the standings, equal on points with Vesa Kallio, but placed above him in the standings.

Davide Giugliano: “Any race we finish in the top ten is like a win so I am very happy. The bike was good; the rider was good today so for the next race we can think about even better results. I am pleased to have made this result here, as it was a tough weekend with many crashes from many riders again. I went with a medium tyre and it proved to be a good choice.”
