Operating Temperature on 05 ZX6R (636)

Hi Guys,

Have searched and searched, but could not find anything stating what the normal operating temperature should be on the 05 ZX6R (636)..

I just went for a ride and noticed it went to a touch above 100 degrees after it was standing still for around a min. It was at night, and around 15-18 degrees outside.

What should it run at and whats the max it should get too?

They get to 100degrees all the time if they are sitting thats the temp the thermo fan cuts in.

I have a 04 which is the same engine coldest it runs is 64 degrees and somewhere around 74 to 85 when riding around but if it gets up to 100 dont panic especially if its just sitting.

any chance of installing something to make it stay cooler even when it still, just so its not that hot when riding...

or do I not bother??

Thats a perfectly normal operating temp mate, no need to install anything.

Could go a colder thermostat if you really wanted, but as the others said, you don't have to worry about a thing. it's all quite normal.

If it goes over 120, though...

yea on a 40deg day in traffic if it tops 108deg ..then pull over and give it a break.... thats abt the only time ive been concerned (108deg)

my blade is always at 105 in traffic...

out on the road moving its about 80.

Riding through the M5 East tunnel in sydney once in peak hour it got up to 110 i was getting a bit worried. drops as soon as you get moving again.
thats the highest ive seen it and it was super hot in that tunnel.

I only noticed cause it runs a tad hotter than my old 04 636...

If you really are worried about it, like I said a lower temp thermo.

Another thing you can do, which is little more than a stopgap, would be to replace your standard coolant cap (usually rated at 1.3bar) with another rated to 1.6 or 1.8bar. This will do nothing but raise the temperature at which your coolant boils. It will do nothing to actually help cool your engine. Which is why I called it a stopgap.

Then, of course, you can go bigger radiator, etc etc.

My Daytona I had as a bike before regularly ran at 107 degrees. The RSV regularly runs at between 97-104 degrees and the frame and subframe get so hot you could literally fry an egg on them.

And still it's all good.

another otion is to wire ur thermo fan up wit ha direct switch so u can activate it when u feel the need..i kno a few ppl (and a lot of stunters) do this...
