S60 Phones and Bluetooth GPS

Just wondering if anyone here has a S60 (or similar) phone and uses it in conjuction with a bluetooth GPS receiver?

If so, how do you find it? Does the screen update quickly/smoothly enough, or is it slow, jerky and shit?

Well, I was convinced to buy a GPS receiver for my phone by a mate, who has a new Nokia N73 with a GPS receiver and TomTom software.

If you couldn't see the number keys at the bottom of the handset, you wouldn't know that it wasn't a proper GPS unit. Works a treat and has all the functions of a standalone GPS unit.

The reason why people say that is because the screen on "stand alone" GPS systems are much bigger.......... but these days if you have a Dopod or blackberry the screens are fairly big anyway... In the end, how "good" a gps is comes down to how good the software and the maps are....

I have a Nokia 3230, it's getting a bit long in the tooth but still does the job. I'll be getting a Nokia N73 next month.

The bluetooth receiver cost me 90 bucks delivered from Taiwan. I can put the receiver in the glove box and it still connects to the sattelites without a problem.

I put the phone on the dash (a bit of velcro on the back of the phone, a bit on the dash to one side) and I can see the screen and the directions with no problems. Besides it has voice instructions aswell.

I plan on getting a clear case that I will velcro to the tank of the work bike. That way, if I need to navigate somewhere, I can easily see where I need to go.

If you go off the pre-determined route, the phone recalculates a new route faster than my mates Garmin system.

All up, I'm ultra-impressed. $90 for a GPS system!!
