zzr250 Suspension - needs firming up

Hi all,

I just got my ZZR250 and it *looks* great but it's pretty soft and squishy. I'm going to be on this bike for at least 18 months, maybe more, so I'm planning on adjusting the rear suspension. And the front suspension. However, I've never done any work on a bike before so I'm very open to advice.

I note in the manual that the default setting on the rear is 2 - suitable for 68 kg person. I'm more like 80 kg - of height and well toned muscles, not blubber , so I'm thinking I'll set in on 4 and see how that goes.

I'd also like to put some new fork oil in the front, and maybe some new springs rather than spacers.

How do I go about getting new springs? Where are there big shops full of motorbike parts in Melbourne? Do I take out the old ones and take them to the shop with me to compare size?

best bet is to just order a set of Progressive springs to suit your model, and change them when received in the mail........its really easy, and I am sure a couple of the boys from Melbourne will be happy to help you out. Change your fork oil at the same time. Get a manual if you haven't alreday got one, there might even be one attached to this site ( do a search). This will give you the proper oil specs.

Gos, does one order progressive springs from a suspension joint or a dealer?

either one should be able to order a set for you. There are other brands about, but personally I reckon the Progressive's are excellent value - they were about $140 a pair when I got mine a couple of years ago. It was one of the best mods I did on the Zed, made a world of difference in improving the handling.......

Hey thanks for your advice. I contacted those guys and they don't have anything for a ZZR250, but they do for the bigger bikes. I might try contacting a Kawasaki place to see if they can help me out with springs.

if ur lazy like me..u take the whole fork to a bike shop or suspension mob (we got hoeys over here) who rebuil ur forks with oil, springs,seal etc for abt $200 i think he estimated... depends how much rooting around u wanna do...he IS one of the premiere race suspension guru's over here tho...

so thats what id do...
