Moving back to Australia.

Hey guys,

I learned about this site on Kawiforums.com and figured I would ask you guys as well.

Well I am seriously contemplating moving back to the homeland, I was brought up in Brisbane and moved over to the United states in 1998 when i was 15 and have been living here ever since. I have only been back to Oz a couple times since monving here, last time was in 03. Well I am finally done with school, and have been working and saving money, and recently I have been seriously thinking about moving back.

So ive got a few questions. That I want to ask you guys and will also be asking friends and family I have down there.

I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. with a degree in Business Management. What is this degree worth down there now?

I have heard that real Estate on the East coast is just nuts. Is this true?

Are there lots of Jobs available. I am very familiar with Brisbane and will probably be moving there.

Also, I have an 06 zx6r and love riding. I was wondering how much it would cost to ship the thing, and what taxes are involved in bringing it across. And if that doesn't work what is the price of a bike down there and how do you guys buy them. ie loans, Kawi cards?? Also what about insurance, Will my PA liscense transfer, I know for a car liscense I just have to take a written test. Also what about Insurance.

Firstly, welcome.

Degrees are like bum holes these days but that's not to say they are worthless. I know of a couple of employers that couldn't give a rats arse if you have a degree or not. In an interview, if you give a reasonable indication that you can do the job and have some kind of work history to back it up, then that's worth more than a degree on its own.

At the same time, there are plenty of employers that wont employee anyone if they don't have a degree.

As I understand it, the price of housing on the east coast is ridiculous. Depending on where you want to live. So, isn't that the same as everywhere else?

No idea what the job market is like in Brisbane. I was on holidays up that way recently and I saw plenty of people sitting around drinking latte's and laying on the beach. I assume that they've either got a really high unemployment rate or no one want's to go to work and they are screaming for workers.

Personally, I wouldn't bother bringing the bike over. Find yourself a nice American muscle car at a bargain price, continue to live their for another year and bring it over as your personal vehicle. Once your here, flog it off, make a ridiculous profit and buy whatever bike you want.

Don't ship a bike here as it will have to pass the ADR and that can be very difficult,I know a pom who ended up with a pile of paper the size of a phone book over his bike.

Aardie is spot on...muscle car prices here are nuts
things like 70 Dodge Challengers, Camaros and the like
(in original nick) are highly valued.

Oz muscle car prices are also stoopid....$220,000 for a 68 HK GTS327
$400,000 for a GTHO PhIII and that will buy you a very good place
in Brisbane

Also the amount of salt they put on roads around these parts to melt the snow make it near impossible to find an older car without rust holes the size of my head. unless like you guys are saying you want to pay a premium

Bike commuting is very common and no you don't need to hibernate the bike in winter ... Bit less commuters in winter (melbourne) but more carnage during summer

2nd, it's probably not worth bring a vehicle over unless it is rare as rocking horse poo in the Aus market.

For reference the highly regarded Dodge Charger (ie Dukes of Hazard version) is a '69.
Just like a 57 Chev is more sought after than the 58>

As for salt on the roads, it just doesn't get cold enough to warrent the use of it, unless you live in the Hills or maybe Tasmania

The fun bit; Bikes.

A new 06 ZX6r could be got for around $15000 Aus Knock a few thou off for a used model. Used prices can be quite high here compared with new prices. After market parts are way more expensive here, so fill ya bags or shipping container with all the goodies (anything over 6 months old and under a certain value does not get import duty.

We commute on all sorts. I've just started my daily slog on an 07 ZX10r and I love it.

If you want to work in real estate, there is a reasonable market, but the catch is you need to pass a course to be registered. The course can be quite hard to get on, places are offered first to people in the industry, and jobs are offered first to those registered!!!!!
