ZZR600/ZX6 Fork Swap?

Postby hullfella » Wed Jan 03, 2007 8:13 am

Hi All,
Just found this website hope you can help me with a problem. I own a ZZR600 USA import basically a ZX6 2002. I want to upgrade the forks the stock forks are rubbish. Under sprung, no good for my weight. I want to replace them with ZX6R/636 what ever I can find to fit. Plus the inverted forks look cool. I hope some one out there may be able to help, this is my last hope or the bikes gotta go! :(
Cheers, Steve.

Someone here did this swap recently. (Mighta been ZX6 forks into a ZX9R) and it looked awesome with the upside downers and radial brakes. Hopefully they'll chime in and help you out. :D
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

That would be me! :)

Unfortunately I have a 98 model ZX9R so I have no idea how it would relate to the later model ZX6/ZZR600.

The main ($$$ wise) issue with doing it on my ZX9R was the 2005 ZX6 forks were shorter then my 9 forks, hence it required a custom "stepped" top clamp to retain the ride height. If the forks are a similar length you should be able to get away with using the standard top clamp that comes with the new forks which would save a *lot* of time/money.

If you just want the standard forks to work better and they are nice low km units, it would probably be better to spend some cash on getting them rebuilt with better internals. If you have the time/money though I say go for the swap!!. The new forks look shit hot and its sure to get attention wherever it goes.

The radial brakes also crap all over the old 6 pots.

Kris

EDIT: Forgot to say check on kawiforums.com they have a massive ZX6 following on there and Im sure someone would have done the swap on your model.

And a pic of mine :)

Cheers dude, I will have to do a bit more research on the costs and see how much modification is involved. Top job on yours though looks sh*t hot. If it handles like it looks you should be well pleased. Gonna log on to Kawi forums now, give them a try. Thanks for the advice. Steve.
