Z1k blackened bits

Postby deafwish » Wed Dec 27, 2006 1:17 pm

Wasn't a fan of the shiny silver bits, so I've had a couple of things painted in a nice matt black. I think I now need to paint the grey cover under the seat....? :? Thoughts?

ooooh, I like the blackening. I reckon it looks much sharper.

I agree with you that it would look good with the under seat section done too. At the moment it looks like three different shades of dark grey (matt black painting, under seat grey, seat grey), whereas if that was black, the matt black would look blacker, and overall less 'busy'.

I agree, Cath.
How does matt black wear on high 'rub' areas, such as the under seat section? I'm really not keen on doing a gloss black with a clear coat!

I always rest my heels on the backs of them and I'm thinking powdercoating them is a must, as spraypaint might wear off real quick! You agree?

Hmmmm........ :(
Any suggestions on what matt/ satin paint to use for the plastic bits, under the seat?

no idea, the standard paint will eventually rub through, so paint with something and be prepared to do it again one day.

I blacked out the sidecover and frame cover on my Z750. I went the other way with the pillion peg hanger and riders peg backing plate by polishing them!

yeah the 7fiddy pegs look better coz there're seperate, the 1000 ones are all one piece. grrr!!

i looked at swapping the rear subframe for a 750 one so i could have seperate pegs, but the frame is one piece, not bolted. :(

James,
What type of paint did you use?

Hey deafwish,

I got it done by a local bike painter when I worked at the dealership. It cost me $20 and took 2 days, so I dont think it was anything too fancy. Looked to me like an enamel based paint.

Stage 2 is complete! 8)
Did the underseat side covers matt black and just finished the rearsets.
What a PITA the rearsets were to do! :x
Did it once again with a VHT enamel type spray can!
