Are All Chains Created Equal (not about x-ring, o-ring)

Hey guys,
Wondering if someone could shed some light on chain manufacturers, and if any go beyond the ANSI B29.1 standard, (last revised in 1975). The reason i ask this is because chains vary in price between brands, and having only run RK takasago chains myself, i wanted to know of peoples experiences with other chains.

I did a bit of research myself, and under the load conditions etc, its far more likely for a chain failure on a bike to occur at the internal pins (reason being the velocity of the chain makes the pins more susceptible to failure than the plates). So really, if all chains were made to the standard, ie the pin materials were the same, and you kept it well lubricated, whats the advantage of a more expensive chain?

I'd also like to point out i've never had a chain break on me, and i do take a link out before replacing (im only on a 250 tho).

If anyone has had any bad experiences with chains breaking (ie tearing into their crankcase) then post it here. Thanks

The only advantage that I can see would be the weight savings of some of the fancier, more expensive chains. But I think that'd be about it.

Think I said on the other thread its mostly about component life, the more expensive chains have better types of o rings with a longer life the o rings keeping the lube inside the chain for longer.

If you ride a lot daily and i have been doing 200kms a day for the last few months you will find most of that spray on lube pretty useless and I have tried allsorts from belray to silkolene to motul and at the end of the day it looks dry and flaky but looks okay when you spray it on.

When I went to a new chain I got the best one I could find because adjusting daily is a pain in the ass and got a Scott oiler which is also a pain in the ass but effectively keeps the chain wet and fairly clean so the o rings get lubed and the lube stays in the chain...well i hope so time will tell.

last chain was the oem one that came with a 04 6r it lasted 40000kms but I used to clean and lube it regularly with whatever i could find in a tin that said chain lube.


You would have to Google the manufactures sites for different ones and decide from there what you want i would think their all pretty good.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?
