Mate, I used to do Singapore once a month for about a year, usually for 2-3 days. The first couple were OK but then it was just shit. I hated the flight back ie Leave Sgp at 8.00pm and get back in Sydney about 6.00am. I used to get on the plane, have a feed, slam as many bourbons as I could down in about 2 hours and then try and sleep the rest of the way. Rarely worked though. You get sick of the place too, it's just so phaaarking artificial, and the food is shit and grog is stupidly expensive. Ugghh. I feel for ya.

My last job was Melbourne based but I lived in Sydney and the GM lived in Brisbane (Smorgon Steel is a stupid organisation). I used to get on a plane most Mondays and stay in Melbourne until Tuesday then fly to Brisbane for a day then home. Again, alright at first but geez do you get jack of it.

Now i do an interstater for about two days once per month in either Melb, Bris or Adelaide and I can live with that.

these days apart from a few hours travelling time, it's not a lot diff travelling interstate as it is to O/S. I do both, and quite frankly after 15 years of it, would welcome not ever having to do it again.

5 and 6 star travel is something you actually can get bored with. It's not that it is horrible having all those nice things around, it is just that it's horrible having all those nice things around, and not your significant other to share it with. It's a lonely existance actually. 8)

I use to go to all sorts of places in Asia, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Phillipines, Hong Kong, India, Brunei etc, mostly on very short notice.
It was ok initially but became a pain real quick as I was doing it almost every 2nd week.
Got me enough points for a couple of return flights to the UK and still have enough for another, just no time...

I won't say it cost me my first marriage, but it certainly didn't help...

Yep did it for years and would NEVER go back to it.

For those years I was away from everything I loved for at LEAST 3 nights a week and it just ain't worth it. No reward is ever great enough. It's not just the family but also sports, clubs, everything goes on while you sit on your arse in a hotel room or bar on your own or with others who'd rather be somewhere else.

Used to try to make it better by going for the excessive trappings (Marriott exec club, valet parking, limo services, etc etc) but all just wanker bullshit in the end.

Loved what I was doing work wise which is why I stuck it out, but every episode was supposed to be short term. At the end of each they'd have me start on some other "short duration" project somewhere other than Melbourne. Good for the ego but... I couldn't see it ending, so tossed it.

Now get the same dosh and travel short term maybe once every 3 months, much better.
Just one more law and everyone will be safe.

Burky
I worked in the film industry for 8 years
and
nope..its not all glam .
doing feature film /TV Commercial production in Oz is ok
..even if it involves a bit of interstate travel
but trips to LA?
the first one is ok but by the time you have done 9 or 10 trips there
a year and some are only for a few hours work
and then home again..it wears a bit thin I tell ya

then throw in trips to London (to go to Shepperton Studios
for post production ) or somewhere on location ..in Europe
and its all too much

I sympathise.... :)

Glad to see i'm not the only one who thinks it's a pain in the rear end but hang on a sec you guy's got out of it now that was smart.

Smitty i wasn't aware you are/were a move star
The interstate travel isn't that bad just long days, it's the overseas travel that is a killer.

Red_dave well done you will be thought about in the duty free shopping dept

I love first trips, but 2nd or so gets bit tiring especially from Australia you need 7hrs just to get to Singapore. I would love doing 2nd trip to Thailand though as it is so nice of a place and you can ride a 600/1000 around phuket/samui/pattaya for $30 a day :D

Funny you mention this as yesterday they want to send me to Korea with 6hrs notice  but finding out my passport is no good without visa . Don't want to miss Hartwell championship on PI this weekend :D

p.s. I may be able to convince my boss that riding to Adelaide mid November will save them money... take this as a friendly notice Adelaidians !

naaah mate...NEVER a movie star*
just the bag man!

I spent all my time..raising money (doing distribution
and pre-sale deals) and then spending it on the production
I signed up crew ..and cast
(I can say Meryl Streep is a sweetie and Steve Martin is sane)
and then made sure the money was spent as budgeted
...not pissed up against the wall by directors who couldn't help
themselves (limos, grog, females, white stuff etc  )

* did get a credit or 2 on the films
and so I should have..its hard work raising money

cheers
