Paramedics are my heroes!

I was at the second cardiac arrest, scary shit from a first-aider point of view. We had three (I think) sets of ambos, two sets of which were Paramedics (one a MICA crew), plus the guy in charge of the Motorcycle Marshalls (also a MICA Paramedic). Those guys (and girl) were amazing, if the guy survives he owes them a big one. It was enough for me to consider a career change, just need to somehow save two years salary so I can get some study in.

For anyone who's been through a first aid course, the description they give of a cardiac arrest is spot-on. The treatment looks a bit brutal, especially the defib.

I actually looked into doing this at one point and I can tell you the salaries are not really great, which makes what they do even more worthy of recognition.

I DO ride a pushie, but I'm not nuts . You may remember the Motorcycle First-Aid Marshall thread a while back? Today was the day.

250-odd kilometres pedalling isn't my idea of a relaxing way of spending a Sunday. However, I did 530km for the day (on the full-size ZZR600 Neka) and I'm a bit sore atm.

I was one of three KSRC members there, I met Greg, the other was Mick Dundee, but I didn't run into him.

I gave the day a miss Mick due to cooling probs with bike which is tomorrows project, betting my left nut on a stuffed water pump.

One of my girlfriends best friends is an ambo, and to say they have a passion for the job is nothing short of an understatement. she gave up a job paying 20-30k more to go through with the study and take the gamble that she *MIGHT* pass and become an ambo. she's now been doing it for 7-8 months now and is loving it.

Were proud of her :)

Hey Mick, was good to meet you too....so you got to the cardiac?

I was wondering who attended and thought it musta been a freak out as a 1st aider. Not sounding good for the patient though from talking to others and listening to the radio during the day.

Ambos are the best, there is absolutely no doubt about it.

500 plus km for the day was good going ..I got in about 430 and thought I had done well. Especially considering it was Geelong to Queenscliff ... then back to Geelong.. then back to Queenscliff.. then ........ all day. Good fun talking to some great and friendly people and taking it all in though.

Not much work for me on the day so highlight's here were the guy on the Unicycle (yep ONE wheel), amputee guy with one leg doing the 210km (no prosthetic just one foot on the pedal clipped in - bloody good effort) and the "team" who pulled up at the rest stop I was at and promptly started heatedly getting verbal at each other (about pace or leading or whatever the dickhead issue it was) bloody hilarious, thought it was going to come to blows for a minute!!

Good day out.

I give a big applause to the Ambo drivers...

I was carted off to hospital in the back of an ambulance a few weeks back and these guys were awesome to say the least... They were calm and reassuring and made me feel at ease.... (this could be contributed to the shot of morphine they gave me before even getting me in the ambulance...and the few more that followed on the ride to the hospital  )

BIG thanks to these guys and all the others that choose this as their profession... Where would we be without them?

He even saved me from a freaky bug incident... it seems all the morphine sent me kinda loopy and I could feel something crawling on my arm... first reaction from me - FREAK OUT! even though it was only an ant... LOL... now that I think back I may have over-reacted a little bit... but he killed it and assured me that he had the situation back under control, even thou it did get a bit scary for a moment there...

That's why ya join the Ambo scheme ya pillock, $55 a year for a single and if ya don't need it, well ya lost $1 a week, not a massive loss, if ya do, big $ saving, especially if you don't have the TAC to cover your arse like we do here in VIc.
