Looks like my engine is a bit shagged ...

Took it into race replica for a major service and I get a call around lunch time.
your engine is stuffed!

Compression test results 75 100 50 30
Leakdown % 10 15 80 95

So I'm off to do some reading!

Also have to say Dave at race rep is a champ... chatted to him for ages today when I picked the bike up about causes, options, how it all works, stuff like that.

One thing I'd like to figure out is if it was a bit shagged when I bought it (1 year and 34000k's ago) or if it was all me... interesting that nothing was picked up at the previous major service (not done at race rep)

Shattered about the bike :( But on the plus side, when it's fixed it'll be more powerful :) almost like getting a new bike.

Hmm at least you got spoken to Nikos, I was fobbed by the same bloke. The sound of it is their compression guage is rooted cos the only info I got from him waas that mine was 100 as well, no other info forthcomming.

Would love to hear the quote for fixing it too.

Yeh I did to an extent. It was overdue for a major service so put it down to that.
It's not like it has no power, and I think I probably got used to it over time as it slowly lost power.
Still has more power than the gpz 500 loan bike I got :D

One of the things I was told was that at high rpm you won't lose much power because everything is moving so fast the loss of compression has less of an effect.

Sounds a bit odd Smek? It's never puffed smoke from behind you, and if it was 50 and 30 psi it shouldn't be running?????????? :?

Well I have to say I do plan on testing it myself... hence all the reading!

Even with a bad guage all the cylinders should be fairly close and the leakdown test seems to confirm the compression test results.
Reading about leak down tests though I'm surprised he didn't mention anything about where the leak might be coming from as that seems to be what a leakdown test helps diagnose?

I'd be getting it checked elsewhere without mentioning the results you have already Nikos.

just buy a compression guage yourself and at the end you've got an extra tool in the shed (not including yourself)

make sure the timing is right before you start, readings will be sus' if the valves arent opening and closing where they should be.
A loose cam chain throws the timing out an AWFUL lot of degrees (either way).

the compression results dont quite match the leakdwon results when you look at 1 and 2

high possibilities are poor valve adjustment and burnt valves and something that is easily worked out

Both would be relatively easy fixes

Nikos,

Sorry to hear about your motor, however, I have a unbeatable recipe for you to follow to deal with this disaster.

In order of appearance
1. Lime Juice (1 whole lime equals about 3 teaspoons) or use limejuice from concentrate.
2. Sugar (2 heaping teaspoons)
3. Mint Leaves (freshest are the best!) You need about
4. Four to Five mint leaves per drink. (3 for mashing and 2 for garnish at the end)
5. Bicardi Limon (clear) Rum (2 oz)
6. Angostura Bitters (dash)
7. Ice
8. Club Soda (2/3 cup)
9. Straws (the green ones with the accordion top are cool)
10. A few mint leaves and one lime slice (for garnish)

Putting it all together:

1. Combine limejuice and sugar in small cup/bowl and mix up quickly. If you have a wooden spoon that works great. Then add three mint leaves and continue mixing. The key here is to press/mash the mint leaves firmly (about 30-45 seconds) in order to get the mint oil to mix in with the sugar and limejuice. (Personally, I think this is the heart of the drink and separates a good mohito from a FANTASTIC MOHITO!)
2. Pour the contents you created in Step 1 into a glass (10 oz tumbler seems to work well) and add a dash of Angostura bitters (this is strong stuff, only a light dash or two).
3. Add 2 oz of Rum to the glass. Stir well
4. Add ices (cubes or chipped work well, I don't prefer crushed because it melts too fast) to the glass about 1/2 to 2/3 the way up the glass.
5. Add 2/3 cup of Club Soda/Seltzer Water (fresh and bubbly, works the best. Try not to use club soda/seltzer water that has gone flat (remember our motto: The difference between a good mohito and a FANTASTIC MOHITO is in the details)
6. Add more ice to top off the drink if you need.
7. Add 1-2 leave of fresh mint as garnish on top.
8. Add slice of lime 1/8" to 1/4" thick works well.
