ZX2R top petrol tank bolt loose

Postby cow » Tue Aug 22, 2006 4:05 pm

Hi all,

Just a quick question for those who ride ZX2R in particular 93 model.. There are 2 bolts that hold the petrol tank, one below the handle bar and one below the seat.

The bolt below the handle bar screwed in but cannot be tighten.. it keeps turning when I tighten it.. I pull the bolt out to look at the thread.. Looks good.. I suspect it is the hole on the frame is stuffed.

Anyone has this problem? How do you go about fixing it? It is firm at the moment but not tight.. I am thinking of using similiar size toggle bolt.. but the problem is the next time I take the bolt out for maintenance purpose, the toggle will be left below the frame.. don't mind getting another toggle but what's below the frame where the hole is? If I drop the toggle in, will it stuff up any mechanically items?

Any comments will be appreciated.

Or make sure it's lined up correctly, you could be turning and turning and not actually getting any action

If it's stripped, spend some bucks and get it helicoiled or if you're confident tap a new thread in yourself. Stripped threads are a pain in the butt and as annoying as hell.

It's line up properly and turning in .. but I think they are stripped.

Get it helicoiled? Hmm.. where can I get them done and roughly how much? I might bring it to my car mechanic and see if he can do a new thread for me..

Thanks for all that reply.
