Bad batch of gears got through QC, it looks like. Swabio went through the same merry dance with his own 05 ZX6 earlier this year.

and how to fix?

Being an '05 model, it's still under warranty. Take into Kwaka shop, walk up to service counter, point to bike and say, "Gearbox broken. You fix."

we should band together and visit the dealer as a unruley mob, I have been going to them about twice a week complaing about the rough shifting between first and second and thew bikes reluctance to find any gear when shifting down to first while at lights.

The dealer tells me that its a weak detent spring but wont touch it as a warantee job without stripping the whole box and leaving it in peices for a month or two while contemplating it with someone in sydney.

Anyways my gearbox isnt fixing itself and the dealer doesnt want to know either....cant complain about the service hey.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

Basically I had the same issue, although in 2nd & 3rd, It required a complete pull down of the gearbox and as you prob read, kwaka oz were a bit reluctant to cover it under warranty, so I suggest that you prepare yourself to stand firm, and do not yeild under any pressure, and maintain that you have not abused the bike, no wheelie's, etc etc. As it sounds just like what my bike was doing, it is quite likely the 'dogs', which is what was rooted in my gearbox...... good luck with getting it fixed!

Hidepenny i have had a few difernt answers on this the latest from the dealer is my clutch isnt releasing when the lever is pulled fully in so tyhe whell is still driving slightly when in gear on the stand with the clutch pulled fully in.

he wants 400 bucks to to pull the clutch to bits  so he can eliminate this as a problem....i ordered a factory pro detent kit and will fit it first and see what happpens and maybe try some semi synthetic oil as well instead of the good stuff.

why on earth you would want to pull out a clutch that isnt slipping is beond me.

Most bikes cars I have worked on even trucks, hell all vehicles IMO when in gear will have a little drag through the clutch and make the drive wheels turn slightly, however too much drag friction through a clutch may make it hard to change down gears at a stationary position.

Can you change down with the engine off or rocking bike back and forth?
If so the dealer maybe onto something.

sounds like a re-call on this bike should be done. Not to sure if I will buy a 05 model now  and I wonder if they fixed the problem in the 06 model??

Mate, it is not that big of an issue, seriously they are a good bike, and damn they are awesome fun..... a couple of ppl experiencing a gearbox issue, is hardly reason to recall the lot, there is no need to sensationalise the issue.... overall they are a damn good bike....
