Wake up and smell the shit guys.
I like to think my bike is best too but REALITY is a bit harsher.
Unless something untoward has happened to the new one (like being flogged by ppl that cant use clutchs ) you should take the 5 year newer one.

Unless it is a Harley in which case it will still be based in the 50's..

It was 2003 actually...

If ya go the 954, and it's obviously going cheap, you still need to factor in about $5k for all the accessories that go with Honda's:

- Repsol replica jacket 5obsessed.gif
- Doohan replica helmet 5footballhelmet.gif
- HRC stickers jerk.gif
- Orange rim stickers 5bowtie.gif
- Matching tassles for the clip-ons 5nuclear.gif
- Subscription to "Men's Health" magazine bootyshake.gif
- Acrylic Finger nails with and assortment of colours hat3.gif
- A plain black bag to slip over the B'n'T bag they give you when you buy your underwear from them zicon_batman.gif
- A 4ltr tub of Haagen Daas ice cream to turn to in those moments when "everyone is just skinnier and prettier than me"

I think that's it... dontknow.gif

Oops, and the "last" 12 was 2006 BUT apart from dual buttterflies, radial calipers and electrics it was the same as 2000.
Apart from "updates" when was the last 9?

No offence intended I am just trying to point out technology is AWFUL hard to beat. Did a 9 ever get a slipper? radials calipers, wave disks etc.
Sure you can put them on but that wasnt the point was it ??

I would buy the 9, personal preference, BUT I dont think a 98 9 is better than a 02 blade. Espec with all the other inof 98ninja gave us.

ONLY one way but, ride the buggers back to back.

cbr- its a honda (these guys bag em, but its got sum strong points)

frames are tuff
motors are tuff
gearboxes arent bad (prob not as tuff as kwakas..or motors)
handling is a treat
EFI
brakes

i rode the 01 zx9r and i then rode a 00 cbr (929) which i bought... the 954 is a slightly better bike in most opinions as its a little bit sharper...

the hondas are a bit lighter, handle a bit quicker, have a few more HP, and i reckon the brakes are a tad stronger....

the kwaka boys will tell u all abt 98 zx9rs...Phil will tell u ALL abt that model...

if u were tossing up the zx10 and the 954..id be more tempted to say 10...

have u ridden both?? what kinda km on each?? how much??

need more info to deduct which is the best buy...

what a complete load of codswallop.....

would YOU like me to prove that a 00 model 9, 6 hp down on the 98 model scored more HP than a 929 blade - your former housemate didnt believe me untill i showed him the magazine with the test and dyno graph.......

if you were talking about "claimed" hp thats another story.

the 9 is the best bike in the world, do i really need to say more

Isn't that extra 6hp offset buy some 30Kg weight disadvantage?

if you use your analagy that an 06 12 is the same as a 00 model then about 1972 for the last model 9  surely an f model 9 is no different to the z9

the 954 did NOT have a slipper, wave disks, radials.....the only thing it had that was more modern was EFI..........

at the end of the day frog, slippers and all that stuff is for bragging rights in the pub, how many people can ride a bike with no slipper, wave disks etc to near its potential on the street. funnily enough some people dont care about having the be the biggest baddest fastet dude out there. its quite obvious that you WANT that title. its yours champ.

Very sorry you feel that way Phil (seriously)

TO ALL
It was not my intent, I didnt mean for it to be bagging 9's
Didnt even realise you could read it that way when I wrote it as it wasnt even in the BACK of my mind.
But I WAS bagging ppl that dont realise that technology has come a long way.
my 7 gets beaten by ZX6's 5 years its junior too.
14's are "better" than 12s
06 10's are "better" than 04's.
Ride these bikes back to back and you cant deny it.
Modified its different BUT the new one can be modded too
Doesnt mean I dont like any of them less, just that 5 years is a long time.
To the original post I stand by my comments.

I actually thought I was being the voice of reason/devils advocate lately...

To be fair, he does have a point. The changes to the ZX9 since 1998 are hardly fundamental. A C1 feels pretty much the same to sit on as an F2.

By comparison, a '98 Blade and an '03 'Blade barely share a common bolt between them. Motor, frame, suspension, wheels, everything's completely different, and the bikes feel completely different to sit on and ride.

rode them back to back
the blade is way twitchier and sharper. there seems to be a click or a clunk for every movement made. the efi was very sharp too. it had a pair of bridgestone bt012s on and i hate them. tried to scrape peg through a roundabout and all i got was a big front wheel slip. its a shorter wheelbase i can figure that without looking at the stats.
back on the zx9r thats 30 000kms older its a lot softer ride. the carburation isnt as on and off as the efi and ive got a pair of pilot powers on it so i cant fault the handling.
hannibal lecter said in one of his movies " my mother always said you should try new things".
so im gonna buy the blade and if it doesnt cut it after a month or so ill trade it/sell it and look at a newer zx9r or gsxr1000.

I think you have made the correct choice, and I am not biased at all, I love Kwaka's also, I have owned 4 in the past and I would buy one tomorrow if I could find one that suited, after a month you will love the Fireblade, they are not boring as some would say, too many have been sold for that to be the truth, besides that if you come down to the central coast one Sunday morning that will make 4 Honda's, good luck with it although you won't need it ;)

im not bagging other bikes here either phil (i kno ur still upset abt that "overweight, underpowered pig" comment from 01)...BUT technology DOES make things better...

if the 03 blade was worse than the 98, ppl would lose there jobs... every manufacturer gets better every year..the point i was making was in comparing a 98 zx9r to a 03 cbr954 was how much technology has changed...and i think my points were valid..
i mentioned the weight difference, the EFI vs Carb, the handling difference....the braking difference.....

i also mentioned that i thought the zx10r (04) was better than the 954...

i think everyone needs to chill the fark out!!

i think ull love the blade mate..if not for ever, then for a while..and when ur done with it, gimme a call :P
