Elbow down

Postby Aussie Ninja » Tue Aug 01, 2006 7:38 am

My subconcious is better on a scoot than me. I awoke from a very nice dream this morning that I was riding through a high speed s and got not only my knee but my elbow down. I'd like to think if my subconcious is up for it, on the right bike and with lots of practise it might be doable. :D

...unless your name is Eric Bostrom on the all conquering ZX7R in AMA
He was beating guys on thous there for a while and REGULARLY dragged his elbow...
There was also a 250 GP rider did it all the time but I cant remember who it was...

I did a Dan too... on a 7 (of course) at Darlington, wondered just how far I could lean it, the answer was right up to the point where my knee was almost back to the tank  and JUST before there is no more tread /traction DOH !!!!

Not a one upmanship post please believe me, but at the world supers 600 S Sport race in 1996, I was T-boned going into Honda on the first lap. I remounted, but the bike was terribly bent. Consequently it did not want to turn left. At Broadford this would have been an asset as it turned right like a 250 Gp bike  But as P.I. consists of mainly lefts, it caused some urgent need for body position modifications  ie- I had to be a Harry hang off to get it to turn left. 3 laps in a row my elbow skimmed the ripple strip exiting siberia! My mates were all laughing at me from the spectator area at Siberia. I could hear them yelling "Go Harry" as I passed each lap.

I was proud though, as even with a bent bike, and a crash, I still wasn't lapped by the fast guys like Curtain,Moss,Purdue,Morris,Krusty et al......!! Wasn't much in it though:oops:

AND once again you have shown your knoweldge of all things two wheeled.
It was indeed Ruggia...

Strika, its not one upmanship, my recalls are mostly embaressing whereas I would think dragging your elbow on the ripples (at PI ) is something to be proud of

SO Hemi you have as much trouble getting it DOWN as getting it Up eh???
I wouldnt let too many ppl know about it

Marcus Payton used to do it, and some other Aussie 250 Gp punter did it regularly. There's also a guy in Aussie SSport who rides a Yamaha and does it regularly too. Forget his name, Aitcheson?? Or one of the other privateer yamaha guys last year used to do it. On the Old R6!

A quick yahoo search and it seems a variety of riders have done this, including Barros, Yates and Capirossi. I think Rossi's leathers have elbow sliders, but I don't know if he uses them or not

Nice one! So what happens when it hits anyway? Does it upset what your arm is doing or is it kinda like the feeling of getting your knee down?

Oh, and how come you didn't try to do it again next time out on the bike? Or does it really take a seriously bent bike to do it? Coz if so I have this GPX you see......
