It's a bloody disgrace, that's what it is. They should be giving tax concessions to middle income earners, not handing out thousands to people for having kids.

Now thats a debate i would love to see!!
It drives me bloody nuts, you want the kid YOU pay for it.
I don't see why you should receive a bonus for it.

umm... hello???

Could be because due to our generation being all career motivated and living with parents longer, buying houses earlier, not getting married as young that there is a baby shortage which means that there will be not as many people in the next generation, which is bad for the economy, as we wont have enough workers to go around.. hence, whack $4000 ontop of having a kid (when you want one anyway), walaa you have a kid, you get four grand to help with the initial costs, and the aust govt have another pleb!

CRAP - utter crap. When I had my 2 I didn't get a penny from John Major, I was working part-time (while at college) and so didn't qualify for any maternity payments from work. Mike worked a few 72 hour weeks so we could buy the baby bits we needed!
The Govt here are doing adverts to get people back to work, but giving out bonuses for having kids, yet do not supplement IVF. So another case of having cake and eating it.

PS. congrats Kishy

Yeah, but, thats that little island, where all those buggers that complain come from, hold on............ YOUR COMPLAINING!!!!!!!

Yeah, they are trying to get people into the workforce, and they are promoting fking like rabbits, because not only do we need more workers in this generation, we're going to need more next!!!!! australia needs a baby boom, maybe we should go to war properly for a year or two??? that always gets the testes flowin

Yes we do need more babies, but who is going to be paying for these babies after the handouts are over?

You want more babies, make it workable.
More and cheaper childcare places,
More insentives that last beyong $4000
Tax cuts for working parents. (would love it for all)

Not point in earning $500 a week if
$300 childcare
$80 travel expenses

That leaves you with $120 a week.
Then what do you do with school holidays? child is sick.

Perhaps schools should employee parents to work there?
yard care, canteen, teachers helper..
So the pension or what ever it is that non working parents get, goes to the school, and the school pays the parent.

I don't have the answers but im sure there are many suggestions out there, that COULD help set up the baby boom.

$4000 woudn't make me want to have another child.

What kids need it education, guidence, patience, someone to talk to and understanding.

If there made to feel like shit, there going to go looking for someone to make them feel better.
If that means shacking up for the night with someone, they will do it.
Many kids think for now, not the future.

Im a mum of three, 2 boys and a girl.
They will ALL be treated the same and all will be educated on life, love and heartache.

Im hoping by the time my kids are 14+ i will be legally allowed to drag them the doctors for birth control. And not something i can say here take this everynight, Im talking injection, implant etc

Oh and every Person buying something in Australia pays tax of some sort GST.
