Fast idle/choke

For general Technical and Performance Discussions

Man,

You guys have got to find something to entertain yourselves with, if this is the most riviting discussion.

I'd rather watch paint dry while sitting outside observing the grass grow, drinking water, reading new idea..

WHO CARES WHAT ITS CALLED??? you use it when you first start your bike in the morning so it warms up!!!

Froggy!! You probably dont even have one of these on your bike anymore!!!!!

Taking that into account I would think it would be obvious that it is NOT just a fast idle (sure it makes it idle fast DOH) but is in fact an enricher or choke. Doesnt really matter HOW it gets the extrea fuel whether by rdducing venturi or increasing fuel the results are the same, ie rich.[/quote]

true that, its also correct that the top butterflies also adjust the airflow during normal running as stated earlier and explained in the service manual. also in an earlier post there is a link on this subject and it states in a description that its called a choke because it cuts off the air supply just as in the case of someone choking to death so the fuel is enriched so the engine can run.

by the way DFI stands for digital fuel injection

yes a choke blocks off the intake so that the engine will suck harder at all the jets and draw more fuel out, but injectors wont work that way

do any late model injected kawa's have coolant temp sensors? not just a 'switch' to turn the thermo fan on and off or give a display on the dash, but so the ECU can work out cold start enrichment? or would it use the one CTS to do all three of those tasks? my 9R has two, one for dash guage and one for thermo fan...

frog do you still see/smell fuel if you start the engine (when completely cold first thing in the morning) and just use the throttle to hold the engine at the same revs that you would with the choke lever? and does it run funny/misfire if you open the lever up when the engine is already warm?
if your going to kill a bronze, you gotta do it BIG!

Yeh it still has a choke lever
But when you start it now the flame from the pipe (must be a leak somewhere for some reason  ) melts what is left of the pillion seat

1. do you still see/smell fuel if you start the engine (when completely cold first thing in the morning) and just use the throttle to hold the engine at the same revs that you would with the choke lever?
2. and does it run funny/misfire if you open the lever up when the engine is already warm?

1. No. It wont start unless I have SOME thottle on, (no choke) and it certainly wont idle
ASIDE : My 12 has a "hiccup" before 2,500rpm anyway, needs a Muzzy advancer. Already has Microns, PCIII and BMC's. Standard bikes run "rich" to smooth the power out.

2. If I leave the choke on I can SMELL the fuel once it is warm and (obv) it is idling high. The bike also feels "fluffy" as opposed to its normal "crisp" self. Stops the bike jerking on little throttle movements too, just the factory "rich" tune.

From what has been said before I would guess it is the top butterflies being closed, if I remember to I will see if I can follow the cable from the choke this arv to see where it actually goes.

ANd yeah I call it the "choke" and have a great laugh that I have an EFI bike with a choke.

...and yeah it is a long thread and explanation but I wont to make sure that the original poster realises that a) my bike is different but b) same enough for the purposes of his original question.
Also to make certain that it is understood that this is my "feeling" and opinion and not hard fact.
Basically I dont KNOW, this is only what I THINK.

When I follow that cable I may know some FACT eh?
