[quote="SocialSecurity"]yep, all those levers on EFI bikes do is bring the idle up higher.

not true follow the cable on the 636 it goes to the throttle boddies to a separate set of butterflies that block off the air intake during cold starts

you sure its not just opening an auxilary air intake for air to go around the throttles? the idea behind a traditional choke on a carby just wont work on EFI with a map sensor

edit: bike carbys dont use a 'choke' per say, they use 'enricheners'

the butterflies block off cold air coming in through the air box so that the engine just burns fuel just like any choke does when the engine warms up it can convert the raw fuel into gas so the choke can be let off the butterflies open lletting in air so the engine can run a fuel vapour air mixture :P

click on this link, and look for the word 'choke'... explains how motorcycle enrincheners work, as well as normal car carby chokes...

on an EFI setup, the only place fuel goes into the engine is the injectors :P

why dont you give the fast idle lever a shot, if the bike magically starts coughing and spluttering with black stuff all over the pipe then you know it must actually be a choke lever.... if not, it will just idle higher

Yep definatley not a choke. The fuel is richened by the engine management system as explained. This lever is only a fast idle lever.

next time you take your fuel tank off to change your air filter have a look down the throttle boddies of your kettle of fish and pull the lever if the butterflies close and block off the air thats a choke

my kettle of fish doesnt have throttle bodies, it has carbys :P the choke doesnt do anything to the butterflys, it opens up a port to take fuel straight out of the bowls (which is an enrichener not a choke)... its pretty good at fowling plugs too

so is your 636 an 02 or a 03+?

so how can blocking up the intake like how a choke on a car carby works (but not on a bike carby) cause the injectors on an EFI bike to squirt more fuel in while its cold?
