Fuel tap confusion .... o_O

Postby YoungKwakUK » Tue Jun 20, 2006 9:21 pm

Hi guys and gals. When i bought my bike the fuel tap 'handle' was missing so there was just a square shaft poking out of the housing. I have bought the handle piece and screwed it on but my question is, which way is ON and which way is RESERVE? I have three positions, arrow pointing up, left and down. LEFt is OFF. hopefully someone can shed light on this because im scared of it being on RESRVE all the time and running outta juice. Oh, and the bikes a ZXR 750 H2. Thanks in advance

looking at the pic in my manual of the knob

the knob has

off at 9 oclock
on and 12 oclock
res at 6 oclock

so to me
9 oclock is the reference point
turn the knob anticlockwise for on
clockwise for reserve

Pretty easy dude
Put petrol in and see when it comes out

In one position it wont, that would be off
One will but it will stop and there is still some there, that would be on
One will flow it til the tank is empty, that would be reserve.

Sorry Youngkwak, this is typical ozzie laconic humour, however you can just call me a Smartarse

cheers smartarse [lol] thought it would have been easier to ask than sit there for 3 hours waitin for the damn thing to drain. So, up is ON, 9 oclock is OFF and 6oclock is RESERVE. Cheers guys, hopefully i wont run out ....
p.s how do i upload a piccy ?? just finished my bike rebuild, wanna see what u all think ..... :os

There is a thread on this but basically with ksrc if you have the pic in your PC you just upload by clicking on add attachment below.
BUT make sure it fits on the page and is not so detailed that it takes an hour to download!

It also helps if you are doing something BAD (monos burnouts, anything in traffic) as this promotes lively and healthy discussion

It depends on what type of tap the bike has- what you said is correct for a non-vacuum switched tap- otherwise (if it has a vacuum switched tap- one hose for vacuum, and one for fuel) it would be:
No fuel flow- ON or RESERVE
fuel flow- PRIME.

:)
Lotsa Kwaks have that sort of tap- my Z440, GT550 and GPZ900 did or do.
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.
