flatspotting 03 ZX6R....why??

Postby varden » Mon Jun 19, 2006 9:14 am

Yup...trackie has a flat spot over 9000 rpm.

All vacume lines are in place, no air box leaks....

Ideas?

I had a RX10 used to die at high speed.
Took a long time to find as the mechanice would not take it and run it at 200 to find out why it was doing it
...anyway ended up being that the fuel tap (not hose) did not have a big enough hole
We stuck a drill up it and the bike never missed again.

So what I am saying Varden is (buy a 12 ) it can only be fuel, air or spark eh?
Not liable to be CDI, not liable to be air either.....
fuel line kink ?

What have you done to it since it last worked right ????

definitely sounds like fuel starvation.....if it's after a lengthy run mate I'd first check the breather on the fuel filler cap aint blocked

well it was going fine until lisa did a 150m tankslapper on it.

I talked to barrabob yesterday, he says its prolly clogged injector so i will bung in some injector cleaner and try that.

it needs a service so either way it will prolly wind up at mechanics sooner rather than later.

The engine had been sitting for a length of time and my 2 cents worth was a bit of jelly petrol dislodged itself and clogged something.

injector cleaner is worth a go but you really want the flatspot gone before the next trackday rather than treating the fuel and hoping it comes good.

I still think its worth giving the injetor cleaner a go and letting it soak a bit though.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I just called my mechanic, I'm taking the bike down to him in the morning and he can sort it out.

I've put some injector cleaner thru it but there is a limit to how much blowing out i can do without riding it down the road on slicks with no rego.

I'll get the valve clearances done and the balancing of the throttle bodies too.

Then i might feel compelled to start modding it.....mmmmm PCIII and BMC filter....fuel mapping...etc etc.......

Can't see that injector cleaner will hurt it, but can't also see how it could be a blocked injector if it only fluffs at 9k!!!! More likely the fuel starvation issue, or something has come adrift inside the throttle bodies! :?:

Nah too cumbersome :P

Well its also stalling, rough idling as well as flatspotting. If you gas it it clears its throat for a bit in the revs then by 9000 rpm it pulls the pin.

Truth be told i haven't looked at the plugs or the airfilter (cept to put it in airbox), but a service will be the go.
